Bette laughs.
(Bette) Yes
Bette steps towards her and holds out her hand, helping Tina to her feet and then pulling her close.
(Bette) You’re sure you’re comfortable with that?
Tina smiles at her as she reaches up and runs her fingers through Bette’s hair.
(Tina) You don’t see it as some pledge of lifelong commitment?
Bette laughs and shakes her head.
(Bette) I don’t, I promise
(Tina smiles) Then I’m fine with it. Do you want one too?
(Bette nods) Sure
They both smile into a kiss. They draw back and Tina smiles at her as she runs her hands down Bette’s arms.
(Tina) This is a first for me
(Bette smiles) Me too
Later, Bette, Tina and Helena sit at the outdoor table and Alice is in the pool. Shane and Dana have gone out to pick up dinner for everyone.
(Helena) So now that you two are together properly we can organise that couples dinner
(Tina smiles) Absolutely
Alice pulls herself out of the water and wraps a towel around herself as she sits down at the table.
(Alice) What’s this?
(Bette) Nothing
Alice narrows her eyes at her and Tina smiles as she glances between them.
(Tina) Helena and I have never been in relationships at the same time, so we’re all having dinner
(Alice) Ah. Yeah I don’t need to go to that
Tina smiles.
Shane and Dana arrive back and Shane holds up the bag she’s holding and calls out to them from the kitchen. They all start gathering things from the table to move inside. Alice looks to Bette and Tina.
(Alice) Actually, now that I think of it, how do we refer to you two? Are you girlfriends, or what?
Bette and Tina look at each other.
(Bette) We haven’t actually discussed it
They hold each other’s gaze for a moment and Tina then shrugs and smiles.
(Tina) Girlfriends, I guess?
Bette smiles back at her.
(Bette) Yeah? You like that?
Tina smiles and nods.
(Tina) I do. Very much actually
Bette and Tina continue smiling at each other, and Alice and Helena meet eyes across the table and both smile as they stand and make their way inside. Helena places her hand on Tina’s shoulder affectionately as she moves past her.
(Helena) We’ll give you two a minute
Bette and Tina smile at each other for another moment before Tina stands and steps towards her, lowering herself onto her lap. Bette smiles up at her as she wraps her arms around her, and Tina moves the hair from Bette’s eyes and smiles back at her, examining her for a moment before speaking.
(Tina) I can’t quite believe how safe you make me feel
Bette smiles at her as Tina tucks a curl behind her ear.
(Tina) I have a girlfriend who I’m madly in love with
(Bette smiles) And who’s madly in love with you
Tina smiles.
(Tina) And a key to her house is in my handbag
Bette smiles as she tightens her hold around her waist.
(Tina) And somehow that makes me feel nothing but calm, and safe and happy. How did you do that?
Bette laughs.
(Bette) Well, it’s been a bit of a journey actually
Tina smiles at her for a moment and then moves her hand through Bette’s hair and leans in and kisses her. They draw back and smile at each other.
(Bette) I love you
Tina takes a breath as she takes her in.
(Tina) My god I love you too

Great to see a new chapter!
Still wonder a bit how they see this not as a committed relationship but if this is how it works for them, i am very happy for them.
Sad to read the story almost comes to an end.

Okay… so they have worked out that they are girlfriends indefinitely….. exclusive, in love but not committed. They can make plans together but not long-term plans. I’m not sure how they define long term but okay… perhaps it means not permenant such as buying a house together or getting married. They are fine as long as things are for convenience and not commitment. For me commitment is an expression of intent not a guarantee. Someone can say to you they will promise love you forever. They are expressing their intent and even pledging to use their best efforts to fulfill that promise. But there are no guarantees in life whatsoever. They are acting like a committed relationship just not labeling it as such. And by not labeling as such, they both can avoid their phobias of being in a committed relationship. They will both will be free to come and go as they wish and to lead the life they want to live. Just as in any committed relationship. As long as what they agree to is a matter of convenience not commitment at least in their perception, things will be fine. I guess my thoughts are how in the world did these two ever get to the concept that commitment was a trap of doing something they really did not want to do? I’m with Alice…. I’m not sure I understand. I’m not sure I ever will… but okay.

The missed calls, Tina taking too long outside… i seriously thought something bad was or had happened to Tina.
I originally had it that Tina left to go and pick up Helena and I realised it totally seemed like I was setting up for an accident! So I changed it but I guess the vibe is still there a bit hey? Sorry about that!
Hahaha yes! And i was thinking that the “accident” will knock some sense into tina about commitment! (Hihihi)
But then i read your notes, 1 chapter to go. (Aww,) We can’t squeeze an accident with just one chap to go.

I love them but they would both be devastated if they broke up so call it what you want they are already committed. Would love to know what causes Tina to be so afraid of commitment. What would happen if something happened to one of them and only family is allowed to visit etc?
