Chapter 17
(Helena) Of course, so happy. You’re not?
(Alice frowns) No, I am. Bit confused, but happy
Alice shrugs and Helena smiles at her as she moves to the side of the pool.
(Alice) I just needed to get my head around it I guess
Alice has a sip of her beer.
(Alice) And to be fair, you’ve always known your friend is crazy. I’m just discovering mine is
(Helena laughs) They’re not crazy Alice
Helena pulls herself out of the water, sitting on the side of the pool and picking up her drink.
(Helena) And even if they are, they’re compatible
They smile at each other.
(Alice) So this is the sort of situation you always imagined for Tina?
(Helena) Well, hoped for, definitely
Helena has a sip of her drink.
(Helena) To be honest, it’s been frustrating watching her for all these years. There’s so much love in her that she’s never allowed herself to express. I always hoped she’d find a situation with someone who made her feel comfortable to be herself, and show that side of herself
Helena shrugs and smiles.
(Helena) I couldn’t be happier, for both of them
Alice nods.
(Alice) I’m happy for them too. I guess I don’t need to understand it. I mean you just need to look at them together to know they’re onto something, right? That they’ve found something that works. And I’ve never seen Bette so relaxed, it’s kind of extraordinary actually
They smile at each other.
A short while later, Bette walks through the courtyard doors and places her phone on the table as she glances around.
(Bette) Where’s Tina?
(Dana) She went out to her car
(Alice) Now that you mention it that was a little while ago though
Bette makes her way to the entrance to check on Tina, and she opens the door and finds her sitting on the front step. Tina looks over her shoulder at her and Bette leans on the door frame and smiles down at her.
(Tina) I locked myself out, and left my phone inside
(Bette) Ah
They smile at each other for a moment, and Tina sighs.
(Tina) OK, can I just have a key already?

I’m here! I’ve been waiting! Gonna read now. Whew!
Thanks, K. :))
Great to see a new chapter!
Still wonder a bit how they see this not as a committed relationship but if this is how it works for them, i am very happy for them.
Sad to read the story almost comes to an end.
Truly enjoy your stories!
Okay… so they have worked out that they are girlfriends indefinitely….. exclusive, in love but not committed. They can make plans together but not long-term plans. I’m not sure how they define long term but okay… perhaps it means not permenant such as buying a house together or getting married. They are fine as long as things are for convenience and not commitment. For me commitment is an expression of intent not a guarantee. Someone can say to you they will promise love you forever. They are expressing their intent and even pledging to use their best efforts to fulfill that promise. But there are no guarantees in life whatsoever. They are acting like a committed relationship just not labeling it as such. And by not labeling as such, they both can avoid their phobias of being in a committed relationship. They will both will be free to come and go as they wish and to lead the life they want to live. Just as in any committed relationship. As long as what they agree to is a matter of convenience not commitment at least in their perception, things will be fine. I guess my thoughts are how in the world did these two ever get to the concept that commitment was a trap of doing something they really did not want to do? I’m with Alice…. I’m not sure I understand. I’m not sure I ever will… but okay.
Thanks for the chapter…
Officially, “spring” is (sorta) here so good U took a much deserved break!!!
The missed calls, Tina taking too long outside… i seriously thought something bad was or had happened to Tina.
I originally had it that Tina left to go and pick up Helena and I realised it totally seemed like I was setting up for an accident! So I changed it but I guess the vibe is still there a bit hey? Sorry about that!
Hahaha yes! And i was thinking that the “accident” will knock some sense into tina about commitment! (Hihihi)
But then i read your notes, 1 chapter to go. (Aww,) We can’t squeeze an accident with just one chap to go.
Anyway, im great with the keys!
Great way to show how much Tina needs a key.
Great, all in love and Alice is confused as always ;)
I love them but they would both be devastated if they broke up so call it what you want they are already committed. Would love to know what causes Tina to be so afraid of commitment. What would happen if something happened to one of them and only family is allowed to visit etc?
