    Chapter 17 – Birthday Week

Bette and Tina woke up at 6:00 am the next morning (Tuesday).  Tina was trying to entice Bette to get out of bed and go for a run with her. They could be back in time to make breakfast for the Angie and get back on the list again to accomplish what they needed to do. Bette was not particularly pleased with the idea, however she managed to drag herself out of bed and look for some running clothes.

When Bette and Tina got downstairs, they found Kit and Sonny working in the kitchen preparing breakfast for the group. They were going to have a large egg casserole with hash browns and toast.  It looked like the melons which Bette and Tina obtained over the weekend were going to be the fruit of the day.  Tina promised to be back in an hour to join Paris, Jeanette, Sonny, Kit, Angie and Daniel for breakfast.

Bette and Tina went out and made their run.  The sea air brightened Bette’s mood.  The exercise invigorated her and when she thought about it, she realized that she had adequate sleep last night as they were in bed and asleep by 10:30.  Angie’s party had been a big success. Angie had no idea it was coming. Bette smiled to herself that the real surprise would be Friday afternoon when they presented her with a car.

Once back at the house, Bette and Tina consumed a bottle of water each as the family gathered for breakfast. Sonny and Kit served the table with generous portions of her egg casserole with ham, bacon and sausage as well as broccoli and cheese in it. The one meal everyone was ready for seemed to be breakfast. It fueled their activities and just made them all feel ready for whatever the day brought them.  That and the coffee had become a must have every morning.

At breakfast, Sonny and Tina talked about the menu for Friday night.  Tina would go ahead and order the food to be delivered late on Thursday afternoon. They would order twelve racks of ribs estimating that a half a rack per person is a normal serving. If four racks were left over then Tina would freeze them for a future meal for the family.  Tina suggested corn on the cob instead of potato salad, but Daniel insisted on potato salad and baked beans. He also wanted the carrot salad but would not mind cole slaw instead. Angie wanted brownies for dessert.  Tina agreed to having cole slaw and but wanted peach cobbler instead of the brownies and decided to eliminate the carrot salad. They could serve that at a different time.  Bette suggested that they have beer with the ribs and get some peach ice tea for the non-beer drinkers.  Bette also suggested that Tina look for some lobster bibs as eating ribs would get messy.  Tina laughed maybe Amazon sold some and she could have delivered before Friday.
