    Chapter 20 – RECONNECTING

    Safe.

    Check.

David and his family – they had just exchanged emails this very afternoon. He was emailing to wish his aunt success in the election on Tuesday. He and his family were at home in New York City having just finished dinner. Completed school classes and work over for the day.

    Safe.

    Check.

Shane, Quiara, Sonny, Helena and Dylan – Bette remembered hearing her friends’ voices just a few minutes ago. She had seen them. They were all there in the office.

    Safe.

    Check.

Peggy – she was still at a studio giving an interview on the Peabody Foundation Program for drug rehabilitation and that she was supporting Bette for mayor.

    Safe.

    Check.

Dani and Pierce – standing no more than 10 feet in front of her.

    Safe.

    Check.

Their respective partners, Sophie and Randal, chatting in the outer office. Waiting for the celebratory campaign event to begin tonight. Bette had seen them on the way into her office.

    Safe.

    Check.

    Who else? Who . . .

She suddenly looked down at the phone in her right hand. Felt its heaviness and stark, cold presence. It’s blank black screen staring back at her offering no answers.

    Wait . . .  The phone call.

    Tina?

True, they had talked to each other several times today. Chatting about the campaign with some quick observations and comments. Bette had asked about voter enthusiasm. Tina had asked a few questions on Bette’s policy stance on a particular topic just to make sure she could provide the right answers for voters.

They’d said some silly little things too, like two women in love do with each other. They laughed and teased one another in their own special way. As often occurred these last few days, Tina was trying to relieve some of Bette’s stress with some lighthearted teasing. She wanted to put a smile on that beautiful face she loved so much. And many, many ‘I love you’s’ and ‘I miss you’s’ were exchanged by both women.

But later this afternoon when Bette had a quick break, the last call to Tina had gone unanswered. Tina hadn’t picked up and the call went directly to voicemail. Bette had left a short voice message, but Tina hadn’t returned her call.

    1. Well you succeeded!
You lulled me into a happy, wonderful, lovely sense of happiness and security and then knocked me for six!
I was on cloud nine when I saw you had posted and immediately re-arranged my early morning to read !
I have to reiterate my hatred of cliffhangers and request another post as soon as!!

Meanwhile, as always, thank you for the post, stay safe and well and PPS!!!

        • Hi Sharon,

Thanks so much for posting your comment. It means a lot.

So glad you are enjoying the story as it unfolds. It’s been a wild ride getting them to forgive each other & Tina for finally admitting her problems.

Gotta find out what happened to Tina & then it’s on to the election.

Take care & stay safe & healthy.

          Collins

      • Hey SG,

Like Kit would say – ‘Girl – I gotta keep the suspense going!’

Glad you were happy to see the post – but maybe not the ending.

So our girls are making progress & Tina is gonna de-brick that wall around her heart that Bette has put back up.

        Remember – Tibette forever.

        Good things to come!!!!

Stay safe in this crazy world.

        Thanks for posting.

          • I get about the cliffhanger – no one likes them except the authors!!!

Been a big Pam Grier fan all my life too. I remember her movies back in the 70’s with Foxy Brown & Jackie Brown. Those were take charge movies.

Hope GQ has a flashback of Kit – that would be sweet.

Much more to come so stay close.

            Stay well.

            Collins

    2. Wow, hope Bette’s imagination is running away with her and that Tina is okay. Talk about anxiety.
Thought the love scene was sweet and totally undeerstand that Bette is isn’t ready to give herself yet. She’s still hurt deep down ans wants to be super sure. Maybe she wants to wait to make sure Tina comes back from Toronto in three weeks.

Thanks for another great chapter. Been following since the beginning. Looking forward to see what happened with Tina.

      JW

      • As a fellow author and on behalf of Collins, thank you for posting a comment. It is so nice to hear what readers are thinking and you wrote a lovely comment to this emotional chapter. Thanks!

      • Hi JW,

As BK said, thanks so much for posting a comment.

Bette’s just afraid of having her heart out there again, especially if Tina doesn’t come back. So, i think the next few weeks will be very good for her in building back that level of deep trust for Tina.

Yes, what will happen with Tina???

Will post soon with the answer.

        Thanks again & stay safe.

        Collins

    3. Hi Collins,

Wow, i agree with SassyGran. You gave us a great feeling, a sense of reconnection, happiness and security and then all of sudden boom, complete confusion because we don’t know what’s going on. Has something happened to Tina? The words Dani speaks suggests the worst. How can you stop here!!!! We need to know what happened and please Bette couldn’t handle it if something happened with Tina or Angie. And me too.

Ok, back to the rest of the chapter.

They connected in bed, allthough not the way many of us expected, but it did happen the way they both were ready for. They set the boundaries of what they wanted and were able to give or recieve. I completely understand that Bette is not ready to give her self physically. Her heart was too many times broken by Tina leaving her, she isn’t ready to give Tina her heart fully again and it was so good to see how Tina understood it and tried to get to that fact by asking some trust questions at Bette. She did it with love and care, she knows she has to break down those walls with being patient, prove to Bette she can be trusted, just like when they build their relationship in the beginning.

Very good think that Bette wants to go to a therapist to work on herself, to improve and try to learn how they can let this relationship succeed this time. They are already at the right path by talking about their fears and being honest and open.

But, then the end of the chapter, I’m just as scared and worried as Bette is now.. Please don’t let us hanging for long.

      Wonderful chapter!

Take care of yourself and stay save ????????

        • Hey you,

Getting in trouble again with the site????!!!!!!!
          No worries, glad to help.

We all know our Bette – gets carries away sometimes & her mind just takes off. Doesn’t always get ALL the information before making a decision. This could be another one of those times – or not!!!!

Glad you liked their ‘reconnecting’. Still a little too soon for Bette to be that venerable yet. But she & Tina are getting along much better

The election is coming up very soon – another cliffhanger??????

Take care my friend & stay healthy.

          Collins

    5. Talk about being kicked in the gut. I love the growth of both Tina and Bette. However, what happened to Tina? Bette can’t mentally, soulfully loss Tina again. Too much to say but please, please post soon. Do you have another chapter ready to post? Please says yes.

Great great with emotions for Bette and Tina as well as readers.

      • Hiya Deanna,

Sorry – didn’t mean the gut punch! But it will be interesting to see what actually happened.

I looked back over some of the earlier chapters the other day & I was also amazed at how much they have grown in 2 weeks time. Lots to heal & make amends for on both sides – but especially Tina.

        Ok, so what’s ahead??
Finding out what happened to Tina for sure
Angie’s got some more life type questions for her Moms
        The election results
And then where does that result leave Bette & Tina at???

        Will post very soon.

        Thanks again & be well.

What a nice chapter to read on this rainy cool day. I lost myself in the unfolding of a new and better relationship between our two favorite ladies. I can feel that Bette is on the brink of surrendering to what her body wants but her mind has other concerns. Makes total sense, she knows that once they cross that physical boundary she is lost to Tina. Love how patient Tina is being.
But damn Collins you left all your many readers scared and worried about Tina with the fragments running through Bette’s mind. Our favorite overthinker has heard enough to go into overdrive, taking us along with her. I tried to piece together the clues but you really need to post soon so that we can all sleep at night. Thanks for such a wonderful story..
      BK

      • Hey Pal,

Glad I could provide some enjoyment on your gloomy day!

You are so right in saying that Bette is very close to giving all of herself again to Tina. She just wants that final signal that Tina will come back & they will make it work for good this time.

Like we haven’t been worried in both your stories about our Tibette couple????You are the queen of cliffhangers my friend!!!!
        It’s all good.

Shows us just how fragile life can be & how we must treasure it everyday.

Ok, looks like I gotta hurry & finish that next chapter!!!!!

        All the best.

        Collins

        • Hi Izzie,

Happy to hear that you have been following along.

Lots of confusion, missing info, high emotions & viola – instant panic!!!!

Bette has so look much going on, how could she handle any more????

          Answers soon to come.

          Thanks so much for commenting.

          Take care.

          Collins

    7. Sorry I have not revealed myself to you earlier but I have been following this wonderful story as well . You have left us all at the precipice.. Will I have to do a “go fund me page” so you’ll at least give us an answer concerning Tina? ???????? Thanks. Just asking for a friend.

      • Hello Jane,

Thanks ever so much for taking the time to post.

Yes, we are all at the edge waiting to find out what happens to Tina. No ‘go fund me page’ is necessary, but thanks so much for the thought!!!!!

The answer will post very soon – so keep on the lookout!!!!

Thanks again & stay healthy in our crazy world.

        Collins

    8. Wo, what a beautiful chapter! This chapter and the previous one gave me such hope for new beginning for our favorite couple…..until! I love reading your story. Please do not leave us on the cliff for a long time. Post again very soon, please. Thanks again for such an engaging story.

      • Hey Finn,

Thanks for the compliment. It’s fun to write too!

These are such iconic characters & thousands of stories have already been written about them Yet each story is unique & sometimes showcases a different aspect of their being.

I promise not to leave you all hanging onto that cliff tooooooo long.

        Thanks again & be safe.

        Collins

    9. Gee Collins, talk about leaving us at the edge of our seats! Loved the chapter. Was all happy when they made love . It was sweet and their talk about Bette’s trust fears was right on. And then WHAM!!!! Straight to the heart with what happened to Tina???????
Ok, I get it about the dramatic effect, but my heart was in my throat wondering. And of course Bette’s thinking all kinds of things
Great chapter and please, please post very soon so that we know what happened.

      • Hi Kira,

        Thanks for commenting.

You know life is like that too – we go sailing along on a happy road & then Bamb!!! something throws us for a loop & we scramble for answers & solutions. So Bette has found herself in this situation yet again – not knowing what exactly is going on. She’s got no immediate answer and she’s gonna be mad as HELL!!!!

Glad you liked the reconnection scene – that took a while to fine tune, but it finally worked teh way I wanted it to.

        Promise to post soon.

        Thanks

        Collins

    10. Bette mentally checking off the list of those she loves and attempting to account for everyone and ease her fears was heartbreaking. Bette’s biggest fear in life remains abandonment: “I won’t be able to survive it if you leave again.” This declaration aptly captures it all. Between losing Tina, Kit dying and Angie growing up those fears have been more at the forefront than ever before. Bette had to find a way to survive after having lost Tina and is now contemplating the very real chance of having her come back. Tina has made her feelings and desires clear. This is all front and center. But Tina having to leave for a while only fuels Bette’s insecurity. That Bette immediately allowed her mind to panic and worry that something had happened to Tina is not surprising. Bette is in a pretty vulnerable state. She loves Tina with an all encompassing all consuming love. This is very powerful stuff. I suspect Bette’s imagination is in overdrive which is in a way bad because it really shows Bette’s serious insecurity but in another way good because it means Tina and all are fine but then again bad because something is still very wrong. Enough to make Dani cry. Perhaps a last minute campaign dirty trick designed to derail the campaign? We shall see.

      • Hi Billy,

Thank you so much for posting your comments.

The emotional and physical abandonment of her mother and the emotional bankruptcy of Melvin has left Bette with this deep whole in her emotional vault that she can’t seem to ever fill all the way & to last.
So sure, she feels timid about giving herself fully to Tina yet, but she & Tina will work towards reestablishing that level of trust in the coming months.

Does Bette over react? For sure. Her feelings are riding on the surface & anything can bump them all over the place.

So when I was writing the end of this chapter, I wanted to convey this how this complex woman, with strong convictions and stalwart determination, still has a weakness – Tina. No matter what else has or may happen in her life. Tina is that juggernaut for Bette. Bette’s not weak – just venerable. She needs Tina is all ways.

Keep thinking along those lines for derailment.

        Thanks again.

        Collins

          • To my knowledge and memory, I don’t think OG ever explained whatever happened to Bette’s mother. Unless I missed it along the way.

Many other writers have brought her back & had Bette meet her & become a part of their lives
& I have enjoyed reading their stories and how the older Bette reacted to that reconnection.

Both of my parents died when I was in my early 30’s & I understand that feeling of a big whole in your heart..
32 years later, I still miss them.

            Thanks for your comment.

            Collins

    11. Wow you roped me in and then slammed me.I hope Betty’s imagination is getting the better of her because our girls need a happy ever after.I can’t wait for the next chapter hopefully not to far away.

      • Hi KC,

Thanks for commenting – Sorry I gave you a slam dunk!!!!

Yes, Bette – the Queen of Over thinking is at it again. Stress – stress – way too much of it.

Yes, the next chapter not toooooo far off.

        Thanks again & keep well.
