“Dana, stop whining. We’re in, we’ve been served. Will you please relax, you’re killing the vibe” Alice said exasperated at Dana’s constant moans about tonight.

“So, who’s the band on tonight?” I asked just as the bartender put a beer down in front of me.

“Hmmm, not sure, Kit something or other is the singer though,” Alice responded distractedly in her quest to find a table. “Got one, follow me.” With that, she charged into the crowd around the bar.

Following Alice, I accidentally barged into someone spilling their drink. Spinning around to apologise, I was stunned by the attractive woman in front of me.

“Sorry”

“Watch it”

Staring at this woman I didn’t hear her next statement.

“Sorry, what was that?”

Smiling at my nervousness, she stuck her hand out “I’m Kate, and you are?”

“Umm, Ti, Tina.” I stumbled.

“Tina? Are you sure, you seem a bit uncertain?”

“Yep, definitely sure.” Hopefully, it’s just dark enough in here that she can’t see just how badly I’m blushing at her attention. “Sorry, again about your drink.” Getting a 10 out of my pocket “here take this and buy another.” Just then I heard Alice shouting to get my attention Kate heard her as well as she smiled looking past me to my friends.

“Friends of yours?”

“Yep.”

“Tell you what, you hang on to that money and come and find me later. Maybe you could buy me that beer then.” She said backing away, “have fun with your friends.”

Smiling at her as she disappeared into the crowd, I turned to Alice and Dana. “Finally Kennard!” Alice yelled at me, “I thought I was gonna have to pry you away from her.”

“You don’t think she was a… you know…lesbian, do you?” Dana questioned, looking nervously at me as though it was contagious.

Laughing Alice replied, “Look around Dane” as she gestured with her arms, “What’s missing here?”

Dana confused at Alice’s question just shrugged and looked at me for the answer, “Dana, this is a lesbian bar.” If she’d had pearls, she would have clutched them, the fear on her face was almost comical…almost. “It’s okay Dane.”

“Drink your beer Fairbanks and loosen up a little” Alice said as she wandered off to dance.
