    ‘Adunno,’ Tina said, swinging her putter a little as she walked. They were discussing when to schedule a trip east so that Angie could visit Yale and Princeton. ‘Do you need to check with Carrie?’ Tina bit her lip, but she didn’t answer. Bette watched her for a moment then realised it was her turn

    ‘Do you need to check with Carrie?’

    Tina bit her lip, but she didn’t answer. Bette watched her for a moment then realised it was her turn to go first on the hole.

    ‘Okay, so I guess it’s a spiral . . .’ she mused, pointing at the base of E.T.’s foot. ‘The ball goes up and round and round and round, and then drops into his fingertip.’

    A small chuckle from Tina. ‘I like this one. It’s cute.’

    ‘Why does it go into his finger?’

    Tina did the gesture and the voice – ‘“Phooone hooooome” . . .’

    Bette laughed. ‘What the hell are you doing?’

    ‘You don’t remember watching this with Angie?’

    ‘No.’

    ‘Well, it was her favourite movie for about six months.’

    ‘Really? When?’

    ‘Oh, I don’t know, Bette, when she was little.’

    Tina’s tone was suddenly sharp. A deep pink blush visible in the low ‘v’ of her open-neck blouse. She bowed her head and stared at her foot as she tapped her putter against her toes.

    ‘Tee?’

    ‘Carrie and I have split up,’ Tina said suddenly. She raised her head and stared at Bette. ‘I’m fine. I don’t want to talk about it.’

    Bette was aware that another group was waiting for them to complete the hole, so she busied herself with that, and then Tina took her shot – hole in one! – and they moved on to the last hole.

    ‘So, are you going back to Pippa’s for your phone or . . .?’

    Tina was standing beside Bette’s car, her arms folded, clearly a little sheepish about the way she’d handled things. Bette was in no mood to make it harder for her.

    ‘Going to do a little shopping first, I think,’ she said.

    ‘What for?’

    ‘Well, there’s a shirt I liked a few weeks ago, and I just saw it on Dave, so I’m gonna go pick that up and then wear it the next time I drop by.’

    The look on Tina’s face – poised exactly between laughter and disapproval – brought out Bette’s cockiest of cocky grins.

          Just started with the Twitter thing – it’s still a bit sporadic for me as I learn more about it. Funny though to read some of the crazy TLW comments.

          Yes, I had hoped to get the next chapter of DOH poisted before I left on my east coast vaca/ family reunion, but it didn’t happen, I ran out of time.
          May have a bit oif time later this week to post an update. Will bge surrounded by enthusiastic bunch of kids & adult kids carving pumpkins – I’ll watch from afar & get the update posted!!!
