    Chapter 3 – Lets Make a Deal

Kit:  Sonny and I have been your guest for two weeks this summer.  The least I can do is buy your dinner and a few pastries and coffee for your breakfast. It’s not much, but I would like to reciprocate when I can.

Bette:  That is really sweet of you but totally not necessary.  You have done so much for us over the years, I feel we owe you.  You know that you are practically Angie’s third mother!

Kit:  Well, there is nothing I wouldn’t do for Angie or Daniel. They are so precious to me. And you two have done such a good job as parents to them. There was a time when I didn’t think you were capable of being parents. But you both stepped up and really took on your responsibilities with a seriousness and grace.  I am just so proud of both of you. You’ve really made a wonderful life for yourselves and your children.

Tina:  Well, we are not through yet.  And the verdict is still out as to how good a job we have done with Angie or Daniel. But we are doing the best we know how.  And we have not been error-free.

Bette:  Yes, the test of our success is coming up in this next four years.  Angie will be on her own for the most part and we will have no control over her choices. She is bound to make some errors in judgement and she is bound to get her heart broken, and there will be nothing we can do to prevent it.  I just hope we have given her enough skills to cope with the situation and get on with her life.

Tina:  Bette, we will always be there to support her. She knowns she has a family who will help her whenever she needs us.

Kit:  That’s a whole lot more than you and I had when we were her age. Bette, you and I were truly on our own.  Angie has you and Tina, me and Sonny, Paris, Jeanette, Mary, Alice, Shane and Helena and their spouses.  She has a whole team sitting on the bench who will be glad to do whatever they can for her. She never has to feel that she has no backup for whatever she decides to do and give her good and sound advice on how to overcome any obstacle which gets in her way. And she is smart and sensible in her own right. She will be fine.

    1. Collins,
Isn’t that the way life is? Lots of things going on which requires multi-tasking? My Bette and Tina are on the same page… they have been working at it for more than 20 years. They know what irritates and what soothes the other. They know they have responsibilities for their children. And most of all, they love their choices they have made in life – each other as partners, their professions, and their role as parents. This is a summer of change for these two. New professions, new home and a some what different family structure. The transition from their New York life to a life in California is full and getting Angie ready for Yale is thrown into the mix. Time is limited and what needs to be accomplished is much. And these two women will get it done…
