Chapter 3 – Soul Note Records, Kit Porter?

Oscar and Esai looked at each other and grinned. When their boss got an idea in her head, she often ran with it.

”And you know what that means, right boys?” Tina asked, finally including them in the conversation.

As if on cue, Oscar and Esai recited together, ”Increased album sales and digital downloads.”

Winking and clicking her teeth, the young music executive replied, ”Exactly.”

“Oh, I almost forgot,” Oscar started as he flipped open the messenger bag slung over his shoulder. “We just got these flyers back from printing.” Pulling a stack of glossy cardstock flyers the size of an index card, Hector handed the top one to Tina. “Your discovery, Third Wheel Crush, headlining the Roxy next Friday.”

Tina reviewed the flyer with a smirk. Her fingers traced the smooth front of the handbill. In bright pink lettering at the top was the name of the hottest band at the moment that had the fastest rising single on the charts in Alphaville history.

She discovered Third Wheel Crush at a party last year in the Hollywood Hills. The lead singer could wail, and they hadn’t been signed to a label yet. When Tina found this out, she pounced on the opportunity like the industry shark she was and signed them to Alphaville Records right then and there at the party for a two year recording deal. Eight months later, they produced an album entitled “Female Rejuvenation” and released the first single, “Wonder Woman” which entered the charts at number 34. Four weeks later, the song was now in the top ten and getting daily radio play.

“Has Gabby seen these yet?” Tina asked looking up at the two men with a gleam in her eye.

“Nope, these are hot off the presses. Thought you might wanna take a look at them first.” Oscar replied with a smile.

“Well, they look fantastic. I think the girls are going to love them. Okay, give them a call and let them know they are in. Take a stack and spread the love while you’re in Venice guys.”

“You got it, boss” they answered at the same time.

Esai closed Tina’s office door behind him as they exited. Tina drew in a big breath with a goofy grin pasted on her face. Leaning back in her chair, she raised her arms and linked her hands behind her head, setting her high-heeled feet on top of her desk. Moments like these reminded her why she loved her job so much.
