Chapter 4 – The Doctor Visit
Tina: Bette, would you like to join me in the shower?
Bette: That sounds good. I guess I’ll get up too.
They then proceeded to get up, make up the bed, select their clothes for the day and do their morning grooming routine. Since they planned to go to dinner with Paris and Jeanette, they both chose dressier clothes than they normally would have worn to the doctor’s appointment. Tina suggested that they wear a warm-up suit for the morning and change just before they were to leave for lunch.
Tina and Bette were downstairs when Angie and Daniel came down for breakfast. Angie assisted with breakfast sandwiches. She fixed four bacon, fried egg, lettuce, tomato and cheese sandwiches on toast. They then had their cherry pastry from the Planet as a dessert. Bette and Tina had coffee while Angie and Daniel had milk and orange juice. Angie had fried the eggs and the bacon, while Tina prepared the lettuce and tomato. Bette poured the drinks and set out the pastry. Daniel toasted the bread and set the table.
Angie: Wow, these sandwiches are really good. This is another breakfast that I think I can handle. And it’s so tasty.
Tina: Well, it will be week after next before you start with lunches and dinners. And, of course you need to learn how to shop for groceries as well.
Bette: Angie you know that if you do choose to join a sorority, your opportunities to cook will be nil until you get to graduate school.
Angie: Really? Why is that?
Tina: The sorority will provide meals which will be prepared by a hired staff. Your meals will be determined by them and you will pay for them whether you eat them or not. And they probably will not allow you access to the kitchen to do any cooking. Their attitude is that cooking should be performed by hired help and not the sorority sisters. So, when the sisters graduate, they have zero cooking skills.
Bette: But if you choose to stay in the dorm, you will be very limited in what you can cook. Mostly micro-wave hot foods or cold sandwiches or yogurt. But you will eat in the student union for your main meals. But if you choose to live in an apartment or house, then all the cooking duties will be shared by the house members. Food will be part of your independent living arrangements. If you can cook, you stand a chance of eating fresher foods and a more balanced diet. And that can help you with your concentration and nutrition for your body to do well in your studies. And that is a more adult style of living.
