    Shane taps her affectionately on the leg and moves towards the door.   Later, Bette is in her kitchen, sitting at her island bench and having a glass of wine. She hears a tapping on her patio door and looks up to see Shane smiling at her through the glass. She walks over and lets

    Shane taps her affectionately on the leg and moves towards the door.

     

    Later, Bette is in her kitchen, sitting at her island bench and having a glass of wine. She hears a tapping on her patio door and looks up to see Shane smiling at her through the glass. She walks over and lets her in.

    (Shane) Hey, I thought you might be up for some company

    (Bette smiles) Sure

    Shane follows her through to the kitchen and Bette goes to the fridge and retrieves a beer, handing it to Shane. They both settle at the bench and have a sip of their drinks.

    (Shane) How was your night?

    Bette sighs.

    (Bette) It was, I don’t know… Lovely. Kind of wonderful. Fucking confusing

    Bette shrugs and Shane smiles at her. Bette smiles and sighs, focusing down on her glass.

    (Bette) It felt like it used to, way back when

    She raises her eyes to meet Shane’s.

    (Bette) But I don’t think I’ll be doing it again. It’s just too confusing. I’ll plan not to see her again until all this is over

    Bette has a sip of wine and Shane watches her.

    (Shane) Is that what you want?

    (Bette sighs) No

    They share a smile.

    (Shane) Well, what do you want then?

    (Bette) To spend every last second with her while she’s here

    Shane nods and has a sip of her beer.

    (Shane) I think you should see her

    Bette frowns at her.

    (Bette) Really? I’m surprised. I thought you lot were all pretty decided that I should stay away from her

    (Shane smiles) Well, I can’t talk for Alice

    Bette raises her eyebrows and smiles. She has another sip of wine and turns back to Shane.

    (Bette) What’s the point though? It’s not Tina. And she’ll be back soon, and things will return to how they were

    (Shane) She may not be Tina, but you’re still you

    Bette looks at her.

    (Shane) I think it’s been good for you to be reminded of a time before you were at each other’s throats

    Bette looks down at her glass as she listens.

    (Shane) Even if all that comes from this whole thing is one of you being more civil to the other, that’s got to be a good thing right? And good for Angie too

    Shane has another sip of her beer and Bette watches her as she considers her words.

    (Shane sighs) And besides I think it would be good for this Tina too. It seems like she’s handling all of this really well but she must be so fucking confused and overwhelmed. You’re the only one she really wants to spend time with I think, you can help her through it

    Shane shrugs and Bette smiles at her, reaching out to touch her forearm.

    (Bette) Thank you. You always have a way of giving me some perspective

    They smile at each other.

    (Bette) She chose the restaurant tonight. Somewhere we often went together because she wanted to sit somewhere familiar with me, to feel less overwhelmed I think

    (Shane smiles) Well there you go. Think of something else you can do together. Just spend time with her. It’ll do you both good

    1. No…. Bette does not need a debrief Alice…. Bette needs to be left with her own thoughts this night. Maybe tomorrow after a night to absorb what is happening. Personally, I see a disaster ahead…. a repeat of whatever happened in the past that broke them up when Tina finally has knowledge of what that was. Maybe they can handle it differently than what they did…. but it is going to be some hurt feelings for Tina and a rerun of Bette to see Tina hurt again. It will be how they respond to this hurt which will either make them or break them….

    3. I am enjoying this fic, I think it is a good idea for Bette and Tina to spend time together. While it is an adjustment for young Tina to know that they have gone their separate ways, she also understands that she is still in love with Bette and wants to be with her. I feel like whenever other Tina gets back she will process things a bit differently. I mean we don’t know who did what or what happened for them to be at each other’s throats but it always takes two to build and tear down a relationship. Alice is sweet trying to keep them in line, but Tina is not stupid she knows they have fallen on hard times but the fact that she went to a time in her life where she and Bette were happiest means to me she subconsciously wants to fix whatever went wrong in the first place. I know Alice thinks she is doing the right thing for her friend but she needs to stop back but be there if she is needed. As long as Bette is honest is a friend to her, and doesn’t get sexually involved with young Tina things should be good for them when other Tina gets back to herself. She will see how careful Better was in trying to help her through this situation.
