    Chapter 5

    Monday morning, Bette is in her office at the gallery and answers her cell.

    (Bette) Alice, everything ok?

    (Alice) Hey, yes, I just wanted to let you know I dropped Tina to her therapy session

    Bette leans back in her chair.

    (Bette) OK

    (Alice) And did Angie leave for camp?

    (Bette) Yes, I dropped her off at the bus this morning

    (Alice) Did she ask about Tina?

    (Bette sighs) Yes, she’s pretty confused why she didn’t see her before she left, or call her even. She usually would make a big thing of it and Angie knows that

    (Alice sighs) Well I don’t think there was another option. I don’t think talking to young Tina would make her less confused, and hopefully Tina will be back to her usual self by this afternoon

    They sit in silence for a moment.

    (Alice) You there?

    (Bette) Yeah, sorry

    Bette clears her throat.

    (Bette) Yes hopefully it all goes well

    There is another silent moment.

    (Alice) OK well I’ll call you later

    (Bette) Thanks Al


    Later, Bette is continuing to work in her office and looks up when she hears a knock at the door. Tina stands in the doorway, lightly tapping on the frame.

    (Tina) Is it an OK time?

    (Bette) Yes, of course

    Bette stands and takes a few steps towards her and Tina does the same. They stand facing each other and Bette examines her for a moment.

    (Bette) The therapy session didn’t work?

    (Tina) How can you tell?

    Bette shrugs and smiles.

    (Bette) I don’t know, I just can

    Tina nods.

    (Tina) It’ll take more than one session apparently. She wants to take it slowly

    (Bette) OK

    Tina looks at her for a moment.

    (Tina) I was wondering if you’d have dinner with me tonight

    Bette breaks eye contact and looks downwards, considering her response. She raises her eyes to meet Tina’s.

    (Bette) I’m not sure that’s the best idea. I don’t want to confuse things

    (Tina smiles) I don’t feel confused. Do you?

    Bette smiles and Tina smiles back at her.

    (Tina) It’s just dinner Bette

    Bette considers her for another moment and then raises her hands.

    (Bette) OK, dinner. Sounds great

    1. Humm.. so Bette and Tina have been separated for more than 10 years… that is a long time. This temporary amnesia may be the only way these two can get together. They have to be in a place where the pain and hurt has been totally blanked out. Subconsciously, Tina knows what cause the breakup and that is why she does not want to know about it from Bette. Once she brings it into her consciousness, she will have to deal with it. It would seem that her desire to be with Bette is far more important than knowing what happened and then to deal with how she feels about it. Seems like these two are really in a mess.

    2. I agree with you Martha.

      It will be interesting to see how this will go, it could be a good thing to come close again, build a friendship before Tina become the Tina she was. I believe their separation was ugly, otherwise their wouldn’t be still so much angry between them. Bette has admitted she is still hung up on Tina and i believe Tina is as well. But ten years separated and so much anger, i really want to know what happened, if you follow canon a bit i wouldn’t be surprised if the reason is that Tina left Bette for Henry or some other guy.
      I am really curious what happened.
