Chapter 7
Tina sighs.
(Tina) And everyone is acting as if it’s wrong for me to feel that way. I feel so watched by everyone when we’re around each other. I just want to tell them all to fuck off
Bette laughs and Tina smiles at her.
(Tina) But really, yes, I just want to be around you
Bette smiles back at her and Tina reaches out and slips her hand into Bette’s
(Tina) The only time I feel at all OK at the moment is when we’re together
They smile at each other.
(Tina) And I can tone it down a bit too
Bette laughs.
(Bette) Mmmm, I’m not so sure about that
Tina slaps her lightly on the arm.
(Tina) Please, I can resist you
Bette laughs and Tina smiles at her.
(Tina) But really, I’ll try, I know I’ve been coming on pretty strong, but I don’t want to cause you stress. And if the payoff is that I get to be around you more, then I’m happy with that
(Bette smiles) OK
(Tina) I might forget myself sometimes though. Just to warn you, I imagine I might slip up
(Bette smiles) OK
They continue walking and Tina looks down towards their hands, now tightly held together.
(Tina) Is this OK?
Bette smiles at her.
(Bette) Yes
They reach their destination and Tina immediately spots an old favourite eatery, and they settle inside at a small table. They enjoy their meals and then sit back with a glass of wine.
(Tina) Tell me about Kit, you said she’s doing well?
Bette smiles as she has a sip of wine.
(Bette) Yes, you wouldn’t know her. She’s really turned things around
(Tina) I can’t tell you how happy that makes me to hear that
(Bette smiles) I know. And she’s just wonderful with Angelica. They have a really special bond
Tina smiles at her.
(Bette) She’s returned to music the last few years which has been going really well. I think running the Planet helped her find her feet and realise she’s capable of more than what she maybe thought
Tina nods as she listens.
(Bette) And now she has the confidence to return to what she loves, and confidence that she can handle any temptation that might come with that

This is achingly sad, and a masterclass in writing.

Hi again, katynd! :) I’ve been buried in paperwork these past few weeks but I’ve been following this interesting story from the very beginning. This has a different emotional terrain from your other stories and I applaud you for exploring these deeper landscapes. It’s like Tina went back to a default setting when she and Bette were still so in love and can’t keep their hands off each other. One wonders what series of terrible things happened that broke them apart but I hope Tina won’t be so devastated once she starts remembering them (hopefully she won’t recall every hurtful detail) and that she’ll be able to look at them from a different perspective. I hope Bette will see things from a different lens too.
Can’t wait to find out what happens next! As always, thanks a lot for writing and sharing this interesting, well-written story, katynd!❤ (Thanks also for your concern post-hurricane!:D)
