Chapters 8-12 – Conclusion
”I’m pretty sure we did,” Tina replied.
”And did it end with me being aroused by something you said?” Bette continued.
”I can’t answer that one for you,” Tina replied with a smile.
Bette had never met anyone like her. So self assured. So bold. Smarter than anyone she’d ever known, too and that was more appealing than she ever thought it could be.
They were soon joined table side by their server, and the conversation drifted to other topics once their order had been placed.
But by the end of the lunch, they had confirmed their plans to attend a very public banquet together, as a couple.

”The best word I can think of is relieved,” Tina said.
”Really?”
”They admitted they thought I was clinically depressed,” Tina said. ”They’re happy I met someone.”
”That’s as good a reaction as you could have hoped for,” Bette said.
”And they want to meet you,” Tina continued.
”What?”
”Alice and Danny have a family bar-b-cue every spring and Alice said to bring you,” Tina said. ”Nic’s parents re-iterated Alice’s invitation.”
”Can I decline?” Bette asked.
”You can, but I would be disappointed,” Tina said. ”They’re the closest I have to a family here. It’s not until the end of the month. I’ll let you get used to the idea.”
”It’s going to take some getting used to,” Bette said.
”I’m going to be socializing with every partner at your firm in a couple hours,” Tina reminded her. ”Not to mention their respective spouses.”
”I know you’re a private person, but we decided this was the way to control the dissemination of the news regarding our relationship. Are you re-evaluating that?”
”No, I’m not,” Tina said. ”I want you to take into consideration that sometimes you do things you’re not entirely comfortable with when you’re in a relationship, and I’m spending the evening with your business partners.”
”I get it,” Bette replied. ”And you’re right, of course. You and your logical arguments will win this round too. We’ll go to Alice and Danny’s.”
”Do you want to shower together?” Tina offered. ”We have to get going.”
Framing a little opportunity for affection as a need to be time efficient. Tina could take any disagreement and make it seem as though the outcome she wanted was the only logical conclusion.
