    Crossroads Chapter 7

Alice gave a laugh, ”Yeah and if Bette and Tina knew what Angie was thinking, Jordi would be quickly seen the door.”

    ”What?”

”You won’t believe this, but on Election night, Angie asked me when I lost my virginity. OMG, I was speechless.”

”What did you say?” Shane said accusingly.

”That I was still a virgin, of course.”

”Seriously, what the fuck Alice.” Shane said exasperated. ”I’m sure she didn’t believe you.”

”No, she didn’t and I eventually told her the truth.”

”What did she say?” Shane inquired anxiously.

”We never finished the conversation, but clearly she has something on her mind. This is the last thing Bette and Tina need to deal with, but hey they have a teenager and this is what teenagers do. We’re just gonna have to help Angie as much as we can,” Alice said matter of factly.

Shane shook her head in agreement.  ”Are you going to tell Bette?”

”I guess I should, but she is not going to take it well at all.”

Shane shook her head knowingly and then shifted the subject, ”So how is it being back to only sharing a bed with one person?”  Shane laughed, ”I told you.”

”I know, I know.  But I am back on track and for your information, Nat and I are doing fine.  Adding Gigi to our relationship was a mistake for sure.  I don’t know what I was thinking,” Alice shook her head.

Natalie Bailey (Nat) and Alice had been together for over 2 years.  Alice moved in with Nat and her two boys last year and she has been struggling with the role of step-parent in the shadow of the other mother.  Maternal instincts came natural in many women, even Shane, but not Alice.  Her struggle to be supportive with the children often went awry.  Alice in a cockeyed solution to bring up Nat’s spirits suggested having Gigi (Nat’s ex-wife) back in the home as a third in their relationship.

”Glad to hear it, I was getting worried for a minute.  Just didn’t see you as the thrumple type.”  Shane smiled.

”I couldn’t believe it when Nat appeared at my show.  There I was talking about her on my show live with Roxanne Gay and then there she was all insistent to talk to me right on air.  OMG, I didn’t know what to do.  I told them to stop taping.  Then I guess Sophie had the cameramen continue rolling.  Ya know I was pissed at first.  It’s my show and I should be able to dictate what happens,”  Alice said with some frustration.  ”All I heard all week was how we were not going to be renewed and that we needed something to go viral.  Bette really got to me with how she pull herself together after the election.  I know, it probably was her faking it, but I heard something in what she said about being true to yourself.    We made all kinds of changes in the last minute.  I got a chance to host my own show, because some executive liked the point of view I expressed in my podcast and thought they could make some money.  I was loosing my show because I got too focused on success and compromised my voice away. I figured if it was our last show, I wanted it to be my show.  But seriously, my personal life was not what should have been what saved the show.  I guess fans like a good old happy ending on a romance, cuz it worked and we were renewed.”  Alice said with a smile.  Then with a serious look, ”How are you doing? Have you spoken to Quiera?”

”Nah, it’s over.  We’re on two different paths.  Chasing after her won’t change that I don’t want kids. The divorce papers have been signed and filed, I’m just going to let it be. Her miscarriage caused enough emotional turmoil for both of us.”  Shane sighed, ”Anyways, I think you and I will have our hands full with our niece.”

”Yeah, I agree, a storm is coming and at the heart of it is Tina and I think we had all better hold on, even this Carrie.  Her probably more than anyone else.”

    1. Wow….at last Alice grows up and can see the chaos around her!!! She actually sees that the center of the universe is Tina at the moment and things are about to happen. What that is going to look like is unknown, but there is a feeling in the air!

I hope that Alice’s prediction that there is going to be a storm is true…..

Its good to see Shane and Alice consulting with one another on their friendship and responsibilities with Bette, Tina and Angie. I have a feeling that they are all going to need Shane and Alice to help them to calm waters.

Really into this story…. I believe that you can straighten out the GenQ mess….Thanks for this….

    2. I just read your author’s note. You’re inspiration of Laurel Holloman’s comment that getting Bette and Tina together needed to be earned. That is the very same comment she made at the end of season 4 before Bette and Tina reunited in season 5. What my question was then and now is what the hell does that mean? Earning forgiveness and reconciling means different things to different people. For some all it means is an expression of desire to do so. For other, there must be some action taken or some attitude or character flaw corrected. In Gen Q, we have no idea what broke them up to begin with. Was the reason linked to the original The L Word story? Or was there something else which happened and sent the two into separate lives?

I see this comment as being a publicity speak for “we have to have more drama in this series than the fans want before we get them back together”. And that is what they are going to do..

This is your story….you take us where you want us to go. And do not be concerned about the “earning” process. What ever you decide, we will all read. Some will like it and some will not…. but I assure you will will all take this ride with you…and our lives will be enriched as a result….Keep doing what your doing… Thanks for being on the front lines on this war against this virus. Be safe.
