Dana’s Choice Chapter 11 (Final chapter)

    ESPN STUDIO DANA’S DRESSING ROOM

Alice could not believe how unbelievable nervous she was, TV in front of a live audience was so much different then radio, and at the time she really didn’t know how Dana did it. She was starting to have a new respect for Dana, because even though some of Dana’s charm was her dorkiness, she always carried herself well in front of both the camera, and the live audience. Alice just hoped she didn’t end up being and embarrassment to Dana.

What the producers of the show had come up with was half of the show was going to be about sport of the week, but the last half was going to be about introducing the anchors families, and love ones. Alice was grateful for the producer’s willingness to do this, knowing they didn’t have to and they were entering into a controversial area when it came to Dana and herself.

About fifteen minutes before the shows taping time Dana entered into her dressing room to see how Alice was doing. She walked over and rubbed Alice’s arms up and down, knowing this was a gesture that tended to calm Alice down. “Al, calm down it will be OK, we both know how much you enjoying talking, you’ll do fine. Now the other family members well I really don’t know about. Plus you won’t be up there alone.”

When Alice looked toward the door Howie stepped in from the hallway. Alice walked over and embraced Howie into a bear hug. “Hey, *****. So you’re going to hold my hand?” Howie slung his arm around Alice. “Hey, someone needs to make sure the Fairbanks name stays intact. Besides I’m really starting to agree with my sister choices lately.”

Alice and Howie sat in the front of the studio audience along with other family member of the four anchors. They first introduced one of the male’s families. He had been married 26 years to his college sweetheart; they had two girls, both of which were in college. The other male anchor had only been married 4 years, but he had two older children from a previous marriage, along with a 6 year old step son from this marriage. The other female anchor introduced her husband, they had meet while playing basketball for the USA during Olympics and as of yet they didn’t have any children.
