Dead End – Chapter 5 (Inside the House)

Everyone stood there looking at the man as he leaned against the door waiting for an answer from the gang. After a few more seconds of silence he ask again.

Man: Are you looking for someone in particular?

Alice nudged Bette in the arm for her to speak up but she only squeezed a hold of Tina’s hand tighter not knowing how to respond.

Dana: Somebody say something.

Dana whispered to the gang.

After more seconds of silence, Jenny stepped up to the plate.

Jenny: Hi, um actually we are lost and were wondering if maybe you had a phone we could use.

Everyone looked on as Jenny began taking closer steps towards the porch as if she was trying to get a better look seeing that the man’s face was almost hidden in the darkness.

Tina: Jenny!

Tina whispered out to Jenny in concern.

Jenny: What?

Tina: We should stay together.

Jenny looked back at Tina and the rest of the gang and was about to turn around and walk back to them when the man spoke again.

Man: I have a phone you can use, but it won’t reach out there you have to come in.

Kit: Aw hell naw!

The deep creepy sound of the man’s voice was enough for Kit to decline, she looked at the shadow man as if he had lost his mind.

Bette: Kit we have to call someone okay, none of our phones have any service and half of them are dead, we need to use that phone.

Kit: Bette our people don’t do this.

Kit frown looking at Bette with pleading eyes. It didn’t take a rocket scientist for the gang to understand just what people Kit was referring to.

Alice: She’s right Bette, most of time y’all usually run the opposite way as to us, we will go in and end up not coming back out.

Alice said leaning over Bette shoulders interrupting the sisters.

Shane: Guys would you knock it off…Let’s just stay together, go in and use the phone, call for help then get the fuck out of here.

Shane whispered to the others.

Tina: She’s right, come on let just go.

Scared out of their minds, even Jenny now that they were actually making their way inside the house, they all walked slowly and close together, shoulders to shoulders.
 
Alice: This reminds me of that movie where….
