    Bette cleared her throat ”Well I moved in with my partner Wendy Valero and she wanted me to devote my time tending to her affairs and didn’t want me employed ” Bette answered  embarrassed by that admission. Steve nodded his head and pulled out a packet and slid it to Bette. ”Please fill out this

    ”Well I moved in with my partner Wendy Valero and she wanted me to devote my time tending to her affairs and didn’t want me employed ” Bette answered  embarrassed by that admission.

    Steve nodded his head and pulled out a packet and slid it to Bette.

    ”Please fill out this packet and return it to Linda on your first day Monday. That is if you want the job. Your salary will start at $70k per year plus bonuses. I have over 50 clients and frankly I need the help and I am getting ready to retire in a few years. I would really love for you to come work for me and maybe eventually become my partner if this works out and take over when I retire. So what do you say Bette?” Steve asked as he extended his hand out to Bette to seal the deal.

    Bette looked at him in shock then grinned extending her hand to shake his.

    ”Wow…I say yes Steve. Thank you so much for this opportunity and I promise you will not regret it” Bette said honestly.

    Steve chuckled and stood up from his desk.

    ”Tina said the same thing. I trust her judgment and this was a no brainier for me so welcome aboard Bette. I’ll have your office ready for you on Monday” Steve replied as he led Bette out of his office.

    ”Thanks Steve ” Bette said as she passed Linda’s desk.

    ”Welcome to Sykes CPA Ms. Porter. I’ll be here to assist you with anything you may need when you get her on Monday” Linda said shaking Bette’s hand.

    ”Thanks I appreciate that.. I’ll see you both Monday” Bette replied walking out of the door  towards her car.

    She pulled her phone out and hit a number already in her memory and it rang until a voicemail answered.

    ”Hi! You have reached Tina Kennard. I’m either with a client or in court right now so if you could leave your name, number, and a brief message I will return your call as soon as I can. Thanks”

    Bette waited for the beep and left a message.

    ”Hi Tina. This is Bette. I just wanted to tell you that Steve offered me the job and I accepted. I am so appreciative and I was wondering if I could take you to lunch after our meeting tomorrow to say thank you for everything you have done and are doing for me. So just call me back and let me know and I will see you tomorrow. Thanks again” Bette finished and hung up the phone.

    1. Oh boy… Haleigh is a mess… Sounds like this is not the first time she has called Tina for help or to be bailed out of jail. And there is what 15 or 16 years difference between Haleigh and Tina ages. So Tina and Bette are about 33 or 34 years old and Haleigh would be about 18 or 19 and she appears to be a mess. I think that we can look forward to some more problems for Tina in the future.

      So now Bette has a job in her chosen professes ion – accounting. Maybe she can get on her feet with this job.

      And I understand that Tina is going to have problems separating her personal feelings from her professional judgement. She is still very attracted to Bette… so let’s see what happens.
