    deep within I’m shaken by the violence of existing, for only you

     

                Bette was hurt and confused by her reaction, her rejection.  She insisted that they go to a sex therapist and that only made Tina even more insecure.  She began lashing out at Bette in anger to change the focus.  She hated the bitch that she seemed to be harping about money and Bette’s unemployed status.  It backed Bette off and that’s what she needed at the moment.  She needed space. 

     

                Bette seemed to be spiraling downhill, spending money they didn’t have at an alarming rate.  Bette seemed totally unconcerned about the enormity of being parents and the world that Angelica would face being biracial and the product of two women.  The adoption social worker seemed to take and instant dislike to them and their petition was in limbo. Their communication did not improve over time it ceased.  She could not open herself up to the vulnerability of the depth of her love only to have it crushed again.

     

                If they could just talk, perhaps they could work through it. 

     

                Bette would never know the pain that Tina felt when she called her from Washington to tell her that the hot Senator Grishom wanted to have sex with her. She closed her eyes against the pain knowing that Bette could not see her face.

     

                “Are you asking for my permission?”  She responded coldly. 

     

                “I just want you to care.” Bette responded.  “Do you?”

     

                She ended the call.  Of course I care.  How could you even wonder if I care?  She realized that of course Bette would and could wonder.  She was silent when Bette spoke of missing her before she left.  She ignored the comment at first she was so taken aback.  The second time Bette said it the statement hung in the air like a lead balloon.  All the things that needed to be said and talked about caught in her throat.  She eased herself back to a safer topic.  The senator was hot and a dyke if the rumors were true.  Bette dismissed them irritated that any strong woman was presumed to be a lesbian.  She allowed some of her pride in Bette as a woman of her convictions come forward and even though she had not opened her heart to Bette and spoken of all her fears she took a small step closer to the flame that was her woman.

    1. Wow, very powerful. I have always thought that there was more to Tina’s thinking than what we have been given. Both have hurt each other so much, but now they know that they can not live without the other. Is it too late? I sure hope not!

    5. WOW!! So powerful!!!! I thought there was more to Tina’s thinking. I know people are going to hate me for this, but Jodi and Bette are great together. It is nice to see Bette smile and laugh she just looks very happy most of the time when Josi is around. I think her and Tina will get together again. Thanks PPS

    6. Great idea and thought development. Man, IC and her writers REALLY NEEDS to come to fanfic land to get some pointers on writing and story development. I love how Tina has gotten to a point or distance where she can see the Candace deal for what it was. That doesn’t make what Bette did right, but let her know that it was not all consuming. I believe that it is NEVER too late and Tina should fight for Bette. It’s time for her to be the persuader :o)

It’s a shame that they’re so distant that Tina thinks any kind of emotional revelation to Bette would mean her making a fool out herself, but there it is; that’s the state of their relationship. It’s just a shame. Maybe one day Tina’ll go it bareback again. I can hope, anyway. Thanks for the chapter, kelika.

    12. Well if she gets to ride bareback again hopefully it isn’t just one more time, but rather for their lifetime. Too much between them to just have a final ride.
