Do What You Have to Do
The moment she looked at the two of them together Tina knew. There was an intimacy in the way that the two women negotiated the space between them. It was way lovers moved with one another in public speaking volumes meant only for each other. Her eyes narrowed as she continued to watch them and the way Bette fondled the necklace the other woman wore caused her to swallow hard. She had no doubt that Bette had betrayed her even before she saw the brief touch of hands before they parted.
She would not be able to tell if she was asked how she continued to function during the hour or so between witnessing the infidelity of her lover and when they arrived home. She couldn’t even remember the space of time between her realization and when they faced one another in their bedroom later that evening.
It reminded her of the time she had been hit by a car on the back of a moped with her best friend in high school. There was the moment when she realized that the car was coming and there was no way that they could get out of the way in time. The next thing she remembered was getting up twenty yards away, there was no recollection of the impact, flying through the air or landing.
With Bette the next thing she remembered was sitting in their bedroom and watching her as she began to remove the suit jacket exposing her beautiful torso and full breasts. Something in her manner caused Bette to turn and look at her. Time stood still. Tina broke the silence with two simple words.
“I know.”
Bette looked stricken. The wordless communication that they had perfected over the years continued to operate.
“I saw it.”
Bette slowly moved towards her. She watched, as Bette tried to formulate the words that needed to be said but like Tina only was able to utter two other words. “I’m sorry.” She reached for her but the small sliver of hope that she was wrong evaporated and rage took over. The tears that threatened to overtake her turned to anger and filled her hands. She slapped her hard across the face that had betrayed her.

Great insight into that horrible, heartbreaking moment. Thanks!
At the risk of sounding like an illiterate fool that was simply awesome. Those scenes were heartbreaking to watch and even after a few years are still gut wrenching.
KEEP GOING BABE! p.p.s.
What a gut wrenching scene that was…glad you did not stay away too long. PPS
that was the most painful scene in the entire show nd u did it justice…in fact I hate that scene so much but when I saw u were writing it well I knew it was bound to be good…please be patient with writers…I have been off for weeks now becuz February is personally nightmare month and just yesterday I got rotten hayfever so I can barely see let alone have the brains to write anything….I’m loving season 4, and especially episode 8!!!! and I’m desperate to get well enuff to put something on paper….but u keep writing for us, pleaszzzzzzzzzz
That scenes is very sad and heartbreaking!
OMG, that finale scene was so powerful, I can barely stand watching it and when I watch it, I always ask myself, “why did you do it, Bette? why?!” (rhetorical question). But now it was the scene in my mind and your beautiful writing together and boy, I need valium now. Actually, at one point, I wanted to stop reading, because… well, you were doing a great job conveying a mix of painful feelings, but I couldn’t stop, was too captivated. Anyway, that was amazing.
I always wondered how Tina managed to get home without blowing up, or breaking down. I was devastated when I watched it the first time (at the tail end of a TLW marathon), and I didn’t feel better ’til after the ultrasound. This was a really good post, kelika. Hope you do decide to post more of it at some point. Thanks
The perfect song for that moment. One of the best acted scenes that I have ever seen. You totally capture Tina’s feelings .
That was one of the most heartbreaking and powerful scenes between two people on screen. Laurel and Jennifer were amazing as B&T.
