Emotional Intimacy – The Missing Piece.

“Bette I’m sorry I put that kind of pressure on you back then, but that isn’t the case now. I’m not financially dependent on you to be the sole support of our family. I have assets and resources of my own. I’ve made a good living independent of you. I didn’t come from a background of affluence so maybe I did develop some anxiety over money when you lost your job, but all I was thinking about was having a child to support. I still need to feel financial security especially because of Angie and because we are planning for another baby but I thought we settled the money issues when we saw the financial adviser. Has something changed since then? Are you risking your personal finances to fund the business venture? Is that what this is about?”

“No. My personal finances are not at risk. Nothing has changed with the business. We’re solid on both fronts. I’ve already looked into small business insurance for life and medical benefits so you won’t be burdened with any of that. Have you decided what you’re doing with the money from the sale of the condo?”

“I think I’ll just invest in something low risk for now. I know the financial advisor suggested maybe investing in your gallery but I don’t want to that. It’s not that I have any doubts about your success. I just don’t want to tie it up right now.”

“I’m fine with whatever you decide on that. It’s your money to do with what you please.”

“I do have an idea I want to talk to you about, but let’s get through your concerns first, then I’ll tell you.”

“OK. We hadn’t really decided on a specific time to move to the beach but in my mind I was always thinking that we would do it before the end of the year or at least by January. But Emma suggested that it might be better for us to make it a transitional move instead of just uprooting the family all at once. She had a good point in that the first few months are going to be hectic for me just getting the gallery started and with the added pressure of trying to move the family and putting Angie in a new school and your commute it might be a recipe for disaster.”
