Enough
Today I received an invitation in the mail. Of course I have received several invitations before, even several from this person, but this one was bitter sweet. As soon as I laid eyes on the envelope I knew it was from her, I would recognize her handwriting anywhere. I had been expecting the invite. Tina had just purchased her first home about a month earlier, and she was having a house warming. I had helped find the house for her, and we had looked at it together before she decided it was the one. I haven’t spoken with her since then. Things had gotten complicated to say the least.
Tina and I have been best friends since we were fourteen. I was nervous going into my ninth grade year, my first year at the high school. I would know some people since I had been going to school with them for years, but there would be a lot of new people as well. There were several middle schools where I lived, but only one high school. We were taught to be rivals with these people, now we were to come together and support one other under one mission.
My first class of the day was literature, and when I walked in I immediately saw a few familiar faces. My attention then went to a girl sitting at the front of the class. She had the most genuine smile I had ever seen, my life changed in the smile. I usually gravitated towards the back of the class, but a seat was open next to this girl and my feet gravitated straight towards it, and I sure am glad they did. Tina and I were paired together to do a project that first week of school, and from then on out there was no separating us.
We spent most of our high school years together. We always had the same classes, and played all the same sports. My family life was not much to speak of, so I spent an infinite amount of time at her house. Just to set the record straight, no pun intended, we were just friends. There were no complications back in those days. We were just best friends happy to have someone there when we needed them. Tina was really good for me, and I suppose I was good for her, or at least I like to think so. I had a bit of a wild streak, due to my lack of discipline and careless upbringing. I never did anything too terrible. I had tried smoking, and drinking, and had dated around. Tina on the other hand had done none of these things. In fact, all throughout our high school years she never had a boyfriend, she was more focused on her studies. I guess I made up for that. I dated enough for the both of us. I know now that I was just trying to fill a void, and I didn’t completely understand what that void was until the summer after my freshman year of college.

Wow, I’m hooked already. Can’t wait to see what happens when Bette confesses. She sure doesn’t do things halfway….it might have been nice to let Tina know she’s gay first and then spring the rest on her but that just wouldn’t be Bette.
Great first chapter, I really liked it, and can’t wait to read more.
this is interesting and really really awesome!
