Fall in Vermont – Chapter 24

They were making a point of staying up late so they could call back
home each evening and as they were curled up reading Tina remembered
something she had been meaning to talk to Bette about. “Oh, Babe I’ve
been meaning to ask you what do you think the deal is with you Aunt?”
“Tee, a guardian Angel took care of her I think.” “What do you mean?”
“I got it out of Kit that she has some kind of dirt on Aunt Vivian and
now she’s backing off” “And of course Kit did not tell you what the
dirt is?” Bette looked over reading glasses as Tina. “Not a chance”
“Yeah, I called the attorney last week like we talked about with Jared
stuff and asked him if she had made any noise lately, and he said not a
peep. So do you think it’s over?” Bette took a deep breath and thought
about Tina’s question. “The Porter’s like a good fight. She may be down
but not out. She may not mess with the adoption but she’s not going to
give up what she thinks is her right”

“You know what the really ironic thing is Baby? She has the power to
make this different” “I agree Tee” “I would not mind her so much
getting to know Jessie if she was not such a bigot when it comes to who
we are” “I say we let things take their natural course in terms of
Devon too, like we talked about. When Jessie starts asking we provide
the answers she needs.” “Yeah, I really think it’s the best way”

“But you know Tee, I get nervous that someone is going to come out of
the blue and try and take Jared” “Really Bette? You haven’t said
anything.” “I know, I just been kind of dealing with it myself” “You
really love him don’t you?” “I understand now that you don’t love all
your kids the same way, they are different people. But, yes I’m really
crazy about him. Those big brown eyes, that wavy hair, and his gentle
spirit and the way he giggles from the bottom of his belly.” “He makes
you think about our first son?” “He does Tee and I know one child does
not replace another but I’m so happy to have a boy to do all that stuff
I had in mind I wanted to do with our son we lost, I just always
    pictured us with little boy”

“You know what I noticed on Jared birth certificate? He does not have a
middle name?” “Really, I didn’t see that” Bette headed towards the
kitchen. “You want some herbal tea Tina?” Tina followed her in the
kitchen. “So let’s give him one” “I love his first name. Shall we keep
with the theme here of JEKP?” “I know it’s cheesy when parents do that
but let’s keep it going” Tina laughed when she said cheesy. “Ok, let’s
think of names with the letter E” “Bette, we don’t have to go very far.
Remember the thing about our Father’s?” “Gosh, I forgot… they both have
the same middle name, Edward” “Jared Edward Kennard Porter, it sounds
good and it’s from both our families, and hopefully he will like it” “I
think if we explain as something special that makes him more a part of
our family he will be ok. Let’s just hope his adoption goes through
    smoothly”

    1. Great update. I have loved this story from the beginning and always look forward to the next chapter. This one was excellent. So happy they adopted Jared and made him one of the family and the already loves all of them so much. Thanks for a very lovely story and please do not give them too much drama to deal with. What they have beenthrough is quite enough. Thanks for the post.

    2. Great chapter C, I hope that all goes well with the adoption. I love that Jerad reminds them of their first son and the name change. I know that you have drama comming, but please alow them to solidify their family first. Little Jerad deserves some happiness and love in his life :o)

    3. I started reading this chapter and was thinking, ‘I know that song from somewhere…’ At the 3rd line I realized it was from Queen’s “Made in Heaven” album. Damn Bette is lucky to get a nice thorough massage. I could go for one of those. :O

    4. That Porter sure knows how to travel in style. Wish my flights to/from San Francisco had been anything remotely like that. But no, I was in economy. Need I say more?

    5. Thank you for the great update. I hope your not thinking of adding more drama? real life has smooth sailing so i don’t understand why fanfic can’t.

    6. I hope that it goes smoothly also. Jared really thinks of Bette and Tina as his moms. I would hate to see him ripped from them. Jessie would also have a friend and a brother to play with. I look forward to every Friday to get my fix. Thanks for this story. I will miss it terribly when you finish.

    7. What a wonderful and sweet chapter, I just love the little things in this chapter – like their talks, they are really communicating, lovely and the massage, you gotta love the massage LOL. I’m looking forward to Friday….
