Fall in Vermont – Chapter 7

Tina and Kit cleared the dishes and chatted lightly. Tina insisted on
making sandwiches for them for the road so they would not need to stop
for lunch. Bette and Jessie came back downstairs with Jessie dressed
and smiling holding Bette’s hand. They were quiet the striking picture
    together.

“Jessie are you ready to go over to Nancy’s?” Jessie reached up to be
picked up by Bette. “Are Auntie Bette and Auntie Kit staying over
again?” “No sweetie they need to leave and get back to California”
Jessie instantly hugged Bette’s neck very tightly. How could this be
Bette thought to herself that so quickly this little girl means so much
to me. “Will you come back again?” Jessie said in a small and tender
voice looking as if she was going to cry. “You bet we will” Kit
answered quickly and Bette responded with a smile.

After more hugs and Tina walked Jessie across the street to Nancy’s
house and Kit and Bette packed up their things in the rental car and
waited to say goodbye to Tina.

“Tina, It was amazing to see you again baby girl. I am so happy for you
and Jessie. But I hope I see you in L.A. again soon” with that Kit gave
Tina a huge bear hug and headed for the car.

Bette watched with her heart pounding and her mind racing to think what
to say and how to say it. Tina grabbed both Bette’s hands and they
walked a bit away from the car. They looked deeply in one another’s
eye’s each having so much to say but knowing this was not the time or
the place to say it. These last couple of days had changed the course
of their lives and they both knew it. From now on they would at least
exist as friends – the years of silence and not knowing were over.

“Tina, thank you for being so open you had every right not to be the
other day, what you said last night well, I don’t know” Tina pulled
Bette into hug and it was comforting and sad all at once. “Bette, this
is something we both needed let’s just leave it at that”

Tears flowed easily for them both. Who knew what would happen from this
point on it but what happened over the last couple of days had been
    very real and meaningful.

The car was silent for the first 20 minutes except for the radio it was an oldie station.

DJ: “And now here’s an oldie by one of my favorites The Jackson 5 –
Never can say goodbye.” Kit reached over and held Bette’s hand.

Tina prepared the shop for opening and looked over some bills as she did she heard the radio and again the tears began to flow

“So I never can say goodbye no, no,
now never can say goodbye even thou the pain and heartache seem to
follow me wherever I go. I tried and tried to hide my feelings.. Tell
me why is it so? I don’t want to let you I never can say goodbye girl
    I never can say goodbye

    1. this is sweet and heartbreaking…how can bette leave now when she has such a beautiful girl and tina back, maybe she she should go back and tell tina that she still loves her…post soon

    2. I just love your story! It’s just a matter of time before both of these women find their way back to each other. Bette and Tina could never be “just friends.” There is way too much love between them for that. They’re soulmates.

    3. The tenderness they both have for each other is so touching. The way that Jessie attached herself to Bette is so intuitive for such a little girl. Beautiful the whole story. Thanks a treasured Xmas present.

    4. “It’s that same old dizzy hangup can’t do with you or without…Tell me why is it so? …Don’t wanna let you go…Thank you, Clifton Davis…ChakaSB, ChakaSB Let me read you, that’s all I wanna do. ChakaSB, let me rock you… Let me rock you Chaka girl, cause I feel for you!

    5. So heartbreaking to say goodbye, but I absolutely loved every word of it. I hope it is just a matter of time before they see each other again for remember ChakaSB….they are soulmates LOL :o)) Please post soon….I love this story.

    6. That was so bittersweet. Bette still loves Tina and vice versa, but the timing isn’t right. At least they think it isn’t. The bond that Bette has developed with Jessie is so touching…it was so sad when they left. So looking forward to more. Thanks for posting.
