Chapter 13

The next morning over coffee Kasey
decided if last nights moment was going to be the topic of conversation she
would have to be the one to bring it up.

Taking a deep breath she didn’t
want to cause Tina anymore pain but it was not something that could just be
ignored.

“Tina I don’t want to hurt you but
I just have one question. You can refuse to answer but I think I already know.”

“Was that the Bette Porter the same
Bette who you took home to meet the family and it didn’t turn out the way you
had hoped it would. The one you spent the better part of eight years with?”

“Yeah one and the same. I left her
when Angie was about nine months old for Henry.”

“Well excuse me for saying this but
how in the hell could you leave something that looked like that for Henry? I
think she is about the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. And I’m assuming
she is Angie’s other mother. How is it possible…I’m sure she knows who Angie is
but the question is does Angie know who she is?”

“No I’m sure Angie has no ideal but
after last night I wouldn’t be surprised if she figured it out real soon.”

“Kasey I hurt her real bad and now
I’m going to hurt my own child more than I already have. When she finds out the
truth she will hate me Kasey. I guess what they say is true…karma is a bitch
you know I hated what my family did to me for so long because I fell in love
with Bette and now my own daughter is going to feel the same way about me.”

“Tina Angie loves you. I am
surprised Bette has not said anything to her by now. I am assuming their
relationship/friendship began when she started school here.”

“Kasey, Henry was not the best
choice for the other parent of a biracial child although I didn’t realize this
until it was too late. At the time I was only interested in moving on with
someone who didn’t remind me of Bette and who could offer me a secure life.”

“Well Tina from everything I saw
last night Bette was very capable of offering you and Angie a secure life. Hell
Tina she is a Dean at one of the most prestigious schools in the United States.
The woman has some smarts and must have the determination to succeed of a
bulldog.”
