FEB FF CHALLENGE: A Time For Healing Chapter 3
“Thank you.” Dana whispered sleepily.
She quietly fell into a slumber, softly breathing. Bette held Dana tightly as the tears cascaded down her face. The another song began playing:
“Hold on
Hold on to yourself
for this is gonna hurt like hell
Hold on
Hold on to yourself
you know that only time will tell
What is it in me that refuses to believe
this isn’t easier than the real thing
My love
you know that you’re my best friend
you know I’d do anything for you
my love
let nothing come between us
my love for you is strong and true
Am I in heaven here or am I…
at the crossroads I am standing
So now you’re sleeping peaceful
I lie awake and pray
that you’ll be strong tomorrow and we’ll
see another day and we will praise it
and love the light that brings a smile
across your face
Oh god if you’re out there won’t you hear me
I know that we’ve never talked before
oh god the man I love is leaving
won’t you take him when he comes to your door
Am I in heaven here or am I in hell
at the crossroads I am standing
So now you’re sleeping peaceful
I lie awake and pray
that you’ll be strong tomorrow and we’ll
see another day and we will praise it
and love the light that brings a smile
across your face…
Hold on
hold on to yourself
for this is gonna hurt like hell”
########
Bette let the tears fall as the words to the song circled in her head. She tried swallowing the lump in her throat as she tightens her hold on Dana. She hoped and prayed that everything would turn out right, but she no longer held that optimistic streak in her like she had in the past. Bette leaned down and whispered to the sleeping Dana’s ear.
"I will do everything in my power to help you get through this. And I promise you I will not go to the retreat until you get better." Bette whispered the promise fiercely, before trying to relax and let the tiredness catch up to her.
#######
"I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don’t let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
Remember the good times that we had?
I let them slip away from us when things got bad
How clearly I first saw you smilin’ in the sun
Wanna feel your warmth upon me, I wanna be the one
I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don’t let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
I’m so tired but I can’t sleep
Standin’ on the edge of something much too deep
It’s funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word
We are screaming inside, but we can’t be heard
But I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don’t let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
I’m so afraid to love you, but more afraid to loose
Clinging to a past that doesn’t let me choose
Once there was a darkness, deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me light
And I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don’t let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
And I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don’t let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
Weep not for the memories"

That was really wonderful… I’m completely won over. And I definitely think Bette was the only one who could have given Dana that kind of peace and understanding. She’s a bigger softie than she seems. Quite beautiful, thank you.
WOW!! Thank you for the tenderness…the love…the respect…the kindness…the gift of pleasure shared between two loving friends.
WOW! Beautifully written. The vulnerability & compassion that Bette exposes every now and then, is what makes her so beautiful. I miss Dana! PS.
This is amazing Pands, simply amazing, i’m awe struck, so beautifully written, so much love and compassion and so very real. What a talent you have, thank you for sharing.
You know- I never would have thought Bette and Dana as a pairing could be so great- I still don’t to be honest- which is a great compliment to you as a writer pands- you have written this beautifully and you deserve to win. You’ve got my vote- you always do! :) Thanks for this experience.
I did wonder what happened when B closed the blinds in this episode. Thanks for showing what could have happened in those very vulnerable and painful yet tender moments. Well, deserved praise.
I’m in awe…I was so wrapped up in reading this that I didn’t even realised that I was crying at the end. The combination of happiness and grief that was shown here can only be described by someone who is very sensitive and caring in my opinion. Pands you’re gifted.
Pandamel, This chapter is awesome. Full of tender and gentle love. There was a real sense of support and comfort from Bette that calmed and consoled Dana. This is a sad delight to read as you realize that this situation comes from despair and people searching for sloce from the harsh reality of disease and death. You just touched my heart and soul. Thank you, Your Loyal Fan.
BRAVO – extremely well written. You captured the very essence of how the ill person wants so much to “feel” something beyond the pain, the changes to their body (particularly from Cancer treatments), and the need to feel beatiful. Excellent! You are a wonderful writer who is highly expressive.
That was beautifully written. I could actually feel Bette’s compassion, Dana’s apprehension and the love given. Great job!!!
Amazing… this is really beautiful P… I continue to be amazed by how much this fits together! Bette really is what Dana needed at that time. Thanks, post soon!
This is wonderful and awesome, love it!!!!!
This is a wonderful and tender story – thanks for going in a different direction – very beautiful and I love your use of the songs ( which I usually don’t care for in other stories).
That was so beautiful Pandamel. The love of a friend, you captured that feeling and wrote it brilliantly. I am in awe.
