Forged in Fire: Chapter 12

“I’m so sorry,” Tina whispered.
Bette sighed. “It was a long time, ago Tina. I don’t like to think about it.”
“I’m sorry for bringing it up. I didn’t know,” she said.
“I know. I should have told you. I just like to pretend that it never happened. It’s easier that way. Easier than thinking you weren’t good enough for your mother to stay with you. Or at least to take you with her when she ran away. That’s what usually happens when women leave, right? They take their kids with them?” said Bette.
Tina kissed her cheek. “Her leaving doesn’t seem like it was about you, Bette.”
“Maybe. But it feels that way. And Daddy seemed genuinely hurt and confused. But he held it together. And he raised me all by himself. I never wanted for anything. I always knew he loved me and doted on me. But he never…never accepted all of me,” said Bette.
She continued. “Growing up, I knew what drew my eye, you know? I loved beautiful women,” she said with a whimsical smile. “But that wasn’t something I really understood or could even entertain. I dated guys like I was supposed to. The spark just never lit for me. When I finally figured it out, I felt so free. And then I met Sidney and we dated. I was in heaven.”
Tina replied, “Sounds liberating.”
“Very much so. But then, I knew I couldn’t tell Daddy. It wasn’t that he was really super homophobic. But I knew it was something that I should keep to myself. Something that he wouldn’t want to know. And so I did. But once I graduated from college, I didn’t want to hide anymore. Sidney was out to her family. I needed my father to know. When I told him, he didn’t say a word. We were having lunch somewhere out and I told him. He didn’t respond. When lunch was over, we parted ways. And from that point on, he pretended that it never happened. That Sidney was just my roommate. I felt unseen,” said Bette.
Tina just nodded. Waiting for her lover to finish.
“He never, ever came to see me. Never came to my house. I invited him so many times. But he never showed. And then fuck….he just appeared out of the blue yesterday. It was so weird. It just threw me into a tailspin,” said Bette.

Good chapter – Bette tells Tina about her mom. Kit comes home and Dylan goes home. Kit and Bette talk about Melvin which is helpful to Bette and even though Tina is working late, they connect and plan for a more normal life in the near future. Time to start thinking about the future….
Thanks for the chapter… its a good to have some entertainment, and exercising one’s imagination is one of the best.
Thanks for the Chapter, just what I needed to help with the Pandemicking (great word much better than Isolation!)
Look forward to more of your storytelling to keep me relatively sane and much happier.
Stay safe

I’m with SG, pandemicking – great! I love your calender, MTS. You really lose the feeling for date and time these days. If there hadn’t been my bday, I’d say it’s Mar-pril 56th.
And yes, your story does keep me sane as well. What a nice journey my mind can go to :-)
I’m wondering whether Bette in this dimension will try to contact her mother. Bette’s relationship to Melvin doesn’t seem as stressed as it was in her other reality but it would be interesting if she wants to know the reasons for her mother’s affair and leaving without her daughter.
So happy that Tina is making changes at work. That proves that she took their talks to heart and puts more focus on her private life. A vacation sounds like a very good idea. They need some uninterrupted time together now that it’s only the two of them again.
Thank you for another “soul-feeding” chapter :-)
stay healthy
cheers
