Forged in Fire: Chapter 23
Previously…
Bette’s ex-wife, Sidney, had been killed in the crash. And the car accident itself had been planned by Tina’s domineering father. He hadn’t wanted Tina to be with Bette. And he’d orchestrated the accident, thinking it was Bette driving. It had been her blue Jaguar F-Type coupe after all. As part of the plan, one of the conspirators had called the Porter family home, informing them of a staged break-in at the art gallery Bette owned with Sidney.
But they’d made a mistake.
When they called the house, the fake police officer had simply asked for “Ms. Porter”. Bette and her ex-wife shared the Porter last name. And when they’d called the home, luring “Ms. Porter” toward the gallery, they had targeted the wrong woman. Tina had recorded a phone call from her father in which he’d admitted to putting out a hit on Bette, resulting in Sidney’s death and Kit’s severe injuries. He’d also admitted to poisoning Tina’s ex-husband in an attempt to silence a man who’d been privy to information that would have been very damning to Tina’s father.
Now, her father, Steven Kennard, was in jail. He’d plead guilty to 1st degree murder and attempted 1st degree murder, earning himself a sentence of 25 years to life with eligibility for parole in 25 years. His plea of guilty had saved him from life imprisonment. Though at aged 72, the likelihood that he’d make it parole was very slim.
The subject of Steven Kennard wasn’t one Tina was often willing to discuss. She hated him. Hated anything and everything about him. Seeking to escape from his legacy and the hurt she felt any time she thought about him, she’d thrown her career into hyperdrive; chasing scripts and fielding offers, anything to keep moving and not stand still long enough to feel the pain.
And though Bette saw the pattern, she let it be. She understood its purpose and had given herself permission to let Tina work through things in her own way.
—
“I love our life together,” Tina whispered.
Bette was quiet, stroking her lover’s soft blonde tendrils.
“Sometimes I’m afraid,” said Tina.
“Of what?”
“That you’ll leave me.”
Bette held her tightly and kissed her forehead. “I’m crazy about you. Why would you say that?” asked Bette.

This is a special chapter. Very romantic and very special. Tina is growing in her understanding of Bette. And that is good to see. Tina goes from being pissed off which she seldom has been with Bette, to being total captivated by her love and soul. They are truly soul mates. And this dinner was wonderful and they almost got distracted. But in the end, Bette and Tina are now engaged. I am so happy for them.
So….the introduction which was a recount of Tina’s relationship with her Kennard family; what did that have to do with this chapter? Perhaps I missed it. I shall reread it again.
Thank you for this lovely episode in the life of Bette and Tina. I love the retelling of the Greek mythology. It is so Bette ! Truly a great experience for me as a reader…
Thank you for your chapter…. love when you publish.
I absolutely loved Bette telling the story of soul mates to Tina prior to the proposal. Talk about being deep off your feet! Guess the retelling of Papa Kennard and crew is paving the way for Tina taking the rest of them down as promised.
Thank you for the chapter!
It was a great trick from Bette – perfect date. Tina agreed and it also allow her dodged a bullet from Tina’s anger about all business Bette with her boss.
And i like story about soulmates as well.
Thank you so much for this chapter I enjoyed it in it’s entirety !
More please, as soon as possible :-)

First of all this. Chapter is a “Masterpiece” I loved it.. from the first step into the dining room I knew this was the night. It was beautifully described the whole way through. Thank you.????
Yes women can be pussy whiped in one since but on her back no.. ????
“Hon” slipped from pam’s lips ????
Oh and the death words.. “I’m fine” my wife hates it when I say that.. she usually steps back. Bette apparently wasn’t acquainted in the finer points of what not to do when hearing those two word come out of her womans mouth. Lol
And lastly have you been watching someone drink wine lately?????
A double posting again? You are too good to us, MTS. Thanks a lot! After doing my usual weekend chores I started reading.
An engagement! I’m so happy. T + B feeling secure enough in their love to make a commitment. Beautiful proposal. Thank you for reminding me of Platon respectively Aristophanes.
It was to be expected that Bette’s “talk” with Davis came out sooner or later. But I didn’t expect Tina’s reaction at all. Angry or pissed Tina I did expect but the way you had her going through the emotions was something else. At first giving Bette the (nearly) silent treatment and then listening to her soul, banishing the anger and disappointment that had poisoned her heart for a moment. So good!
But I’m curious what will come out of her interview. Will she tell Bette before it gets published? Whatever she told and put in motion with it, she shouldn’t have made that decision on her own. Everything she does will effect her soon to be wife in one way or another.
Thank you, MTS, for the double treat. Enjoy your weekend, stay strong
