    Forged in Fire: Chapter 23

Bette nodded. “Yes, I am. And you’re mine.”

    “And we’ll get married.”

Bette nodded again. “That’s the plan. The sooner the better for me.”

Tina stared at her, mesmerized by the love in the heated gaze.

“Can we go home?” she whispered.

Bette could read the desire and passion in her lover’s eyes.

She had prepaid for the evening and asked the attendant to hail them a cab.

They sat huddled together in the back seat, seemingly oblivious to everything around them.

“I need to tell you something, “said Tina.

Bette wore a look of concern. “What is it?”

“I know that you went to see Davis Shah. I know you convinced him to give me my job back,” she said.

Bette looked down. “Are you angry with me?”

Tina lifted her lover’s chin. “No. Not at all. I was…earlier.”

“Is that why you were giving me the silent treatment? I was so worried. I thought you would say no,” Bette replied.

Tina shook her head. “I was trying not to let it bother me. But I was failing. And then we got here, and I looked at you, Bette. And everything else just disappeared. It was like none of that mattered. I understand why you did it. I just…I wish you had been the one to tell me.”

Bette nodded. “I’m sorry. I just…I didn’t want you to know because I just wanted you to think that Davis was a better man than he is. I wanted you to have some belief in goodness. I know it’s kinda fucked up, right?”

Tina shook her head. “No. I understand. But tell me…what happened?”

“Well, I didn’t make him give you your job back. He said he had no intention of firing you. That he just wanted you to sweat it out a little,” said Bette.

Tina’s face scrunched up. “What a dick!”

“I know. I read him the riot act. And told him he was a monster. He seemed to take special offense to being called a monster. I made him call you and thank you for your hard work. And then I thanked him. And I left. That was it,” said Bette.

Tina shook her head. “I don’t understand. How did you get him to do all of that? Did you threaten him?”

    “No, I just…asked. Well…more demanded.”

Tina sat back against the seat, surprise on her face. She looked almost in a state of shock.

    “What? What’s wrong?”

Tina replied, “Nothing. I’m just…amazed. I was thinking that you wouldn’t let me fight my own battles. But you like…took away the essence of a battle. Like de-escalated it.”

Bette squeezed Tina’s hand, “I won’t do it again.”

Tina tilted her head to the side. “Let’s not be rash. Maybe one day I’ll need your superpowers again.”

“Not a superpower. Just a need to protect the woman I love and right a wrong. You were only supporting me, and you should never have been penalized for it,” Bette replied.

Tina looked at her. “Come here,” she said. She wrapped Bette in her arms, kissing her forehead and holding her close. They sat snuggled together until they reached Tina’s apartment and stepped out into the warm evening air.

    The Myth of Soulmates

    Comments

    1. This is a special chapter. Very romantic and very special. Tina is growing in her understanding of Bette. And that is good to see. Tina goes from being pissed off which she seldom has been with Bette, to being total captivated by her love and soul. They are truly soul mates. And this dinner was wonderful and they almost got distracted. But in the end, Bette and Tina are now engaged. I am so happy for them.

So….the introduction which was a recount of Tina’s relationship with her Kennard family; what did that have to do with this chapter? Perhaps I missed it. I shall reread it again.

Thank you for this lovely episode in the life of Bette and Tina. I love the retelling of the Greek mythology. It is so Bette ! Truly a great experience for me as a reader…

Thank you for your chapter…. love when you publish.

    2. I absolutely loved Bette telling the story of soul mates to Tina prior to the proposal. Talk about being deep off your feet! Guess the retelling of Papa Kennard and crew is paving the way for Tina taking the rest of them down as promised.

    3. Thank you for the chapter!

It was a great trick from Bette – perfect date. Tina agreed and it also allow her dodged a bullet from Tina’s anger about all business Bette with her boss.

And i like story about soulmates as well.

    4. First of all this. Chapter is a “Masterpiece” I loved it.. from the first step into the dining room I knew this was the night. It was beautifully described the whole way through. Thank you.????

Yes women can be pussy whiped in one since but on her back no.. ????

“Hon” slipped from pam’s lips ????

Oh and the death words.. “I’m fine” my wife hates it when I say that.. she usually steps back. Bette apparently wasn’t acquainted in the finer points of what not to do when hearing those two word come out of her womans mouth. Lol

And lastly have you been watching someone drink wine lately?????

    5. A double posting again? You are too good to us, MTS. Thanks a lot! After doing my usual weekend chores I started reading.
An engagement! I’m so happy. T + B feeling secure enough in their love to make a commitment. Beautiful proposal. Thank you for reminding me of Platon respectively Aristophanes.

It was to be expected that Bette’s “talk” with Davis came out sooner or later. But I didn’t expect Tina’s reaction at all. Angry or pissed Tina I did expect but the way you had her going through the emotions was something else. At first giving Bette the (nearly) silent treatment and then listening to her soul, banishing the anger and disappointment that had poisoned her heart for a moment. So good!

But I’m curious what will come out of her interview. Will she tell Bette before it gets published? Whatever she told and put in motion with it, she shouldn’t have made that decision on her own. Everything she does will effect her soon to be wife in one way or another.

Thank you, MTS, for the double treat. Enjoy your weekend, stay strong
