    Chapter 2

    ***Bette***

I was eating, finally, in the caf. I was almost done when my cell phone rang.

    Bette Porter speaking.

Ms Porter, this is Ned Barker from

    Oh yes Ned.

I was going through my appointment book and I realised that you didnt make it today so I was wondering if you were still interested.

Yes, yes. Im sorry. Things got a bit hectic and it completely slipped me. I looked at my watch. It was a little after four. If he really wants the sale I think he can squeeze me in. Would it be too much to ask if we can meet in a few minutes?

Oh sure. That would be great. My afternoon is a bit free. What time can you be here for?

Looking at my watch, Ummmm. Within the hour?

Ok great. Ill see you soon.

It took me about a half an hour to reach the car lot. And within minutes I found the car I was looking for. Its the 2005 Saab 97X SUV. With a baby on board now, somehow my convertible isnt a safe choice for cars. But I love Saab, and so the SUV was the perfect trade. I had to dig into our savings but I doubt Tina would mind. Its a surprise for her too. Its the last thing she would expect me to do. Anyway, its the same colour as my, I mean as the convertible so at least I get to keep that. As I was driving back to the hospital I saw a bridal and baby shop. Thats funny. I never noticed that store before. And I realised that I have been so busy with Tina and daddy that, we didnt have everything ready for the ba for Angelica. Angelica. Wow. What a precious little gem. Everything is so surreal. Sorry I digressed. I went a little crazy in the store. I bought a car seat, cradle and pram all in one. I got a baby monitor some clothes and some other stuff. Lots of other stuff. Things I doubt we would ever get to use. I was hoping though that could have gotten the fake ***** De Niro had on in Meet the Fockers, but I didnt see any. So instead I got one of those assistance kits. I paid for the items. Boy I didnt realise how expensive baby stuff are. And headed back to the hospital.

    1. Don’t sell Bette short, she has always wanted a family, I think it would be a good idea for Bette to have a change of career, maybe even a artist, or photographer, or even a writer, this way she would be able to choose her own hours. This will then prove to Tina how much Bette loves her.

    2. i’m sure bette could handle taking care of the baby…but i think bette needs to be the one working…she will land on her feet and get a better job making the cac regret what they did

    3. Great post. Interesting idea about making Bette a stay-at-home mom but I’m with Amanda here — you can make changes to a person’s persona by adjusting their perspective but the core essence of who they are never really changes. Alpha Bette is not entirely gone, simply her priorities and obligations have been adjusted. I don’t think Bette would be entirely fulfilled as a housewife. Besides Tina just seems as the perfect nurturer. Its her nature and Bette’s to be the provider.
