Guilty Conscience
They share a grin across the miles, then suddenly the call goes quiet. The only sound is the faint hum of the connection.
Bette’s smile falters. “T… what’s up, baby?”
After a pause, Tina’s voice comes, lower now. “Nothing.” She pulls in a shaky breath. “I just—I think that we should sit down and figure out what we’ll do if Michelle wins in court next week.”
Bette exhales. “She won’t.”
“You don’t know that for sure, babe,” Tina replies gently, each word measured.
“This case is bullshit. Joyce says the judge will see right through it and dismiss everything.”
“That’s exactly what I hope happens,” Tina agrees, her voice small, “but just in case it doesn’t, we need a plan. If the judge rules in Michelle’s favor, I won’t be allowed around Mickey. We have to figure out how co-parenting will work when I won’t be allowed to be around half the time…how we’re gonna navigate our relationship around that situation…. There’s a lot to consider…”
Bette’s vision blurs, hot tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. She gulps. “That’s never going to be a world I live in, T…”
Tina’s voice cracks as she shrugs. “It may have to be, babe.”
They share the silence, the weight of an uncertain future settling between them. Finally, Tina’s voice softens. “Want to talk about it over dinner tomorrow?”
Bette takes a shaky breath, folds her phone against her ear. “Yeah…tomorrow works.”
“I love you,” Tina whispers.
“I love you too, baby.”
“Good night….”
“Good night.” Bette listens to the click of the call ending, then lets the phone slip onto the bedspread. She leans back against the pillows, fists clenched in the blankets, and exhales a frustrated curse. “Fuck,” she hisses, staring at the ceiling as Michelle’s threat hangs heavy in the air….

The Planet….
The following morning at The Planet, Tina perches on a vinyl stool at the breakfast bar, fingers wrapped around a chipped ceramic mug. Steam curls from her coffee in thin ribbons as she scrolls through her phone, the glow of unread emails casting pale reflections on her face. Her brow furrows over one subject line, and she swirls the dark liquid, listening to its soft slump against the side of the cup.

Well said Carmen, what a bitch
Does Michelle really think she will make a chance in the court. Bitch.
Love how Bette calms Tina and shows her unconditional love.
Thank you so much for the update!
