    Bette is told some surprising news.

     

    “You’re not picking our colors, Alice,” Carmen calls back without turning.

     

    Bette’s smile fades when she spots Tina shrugging into her jacket. “Oh…I thought you were staying tonight?”

     

    Tina gives Bette a gentle smile. “I was, but I forgot I have some work I need to put a dent in…”

     

    Bette playfully pulls Tina to her by her jacket. “You sure wanna leave in this cold weather?”

     

    Tina gently chuckles. “It’s not that cold, baby….”

     

    Bette playfully pouts. “So, what if I get cold in the middle of the night?”

     

    Tina laughs at Bette’s pout. “I’m sure you’ll survive for the night….”

     

    Bette tilts her head and tries to catch Tina’s gaze, but it seems like Tina is avoiding eye contact. “We’re good. Right?”

     

    Tina finally looks at Bette and smiles sheepishly. “Of course…all good….” She then pecks Bette on the lips. “K…I’m gonna go….”

     

    Bette catches her before she can pull away, holding the kiss until she feels Tina soften against her. Their foreheads touch. “Call me when you get home…”

     

    Tina gulps and nods. “Yeah.” Another peck, briefer than the last. ”Love you.”

     

    ”Love…” The door closes before Bette finishes, leaving her staring at the wood grain. ”…you too….”

    About an hour later, Bette steps out of the ensuite bathroom, dressed in a black tank top and a pair of shorts. She crosses into her bedroom just as her phone buzzes insistently on the nightstand. She smiles when she sees Tina’s beaming selfie on the screen.

     

    She lifts the phone to her ear as she perches on the edge of the mattress, the sheets rustling beneath her. “I was wondering if I should come hunting for you.”

     

    On the other end, under the low light, Tina’s cotton underwear peeks out from her white t-shirt as she settles onto her own bed, legs tucked beneath her. “Sorry, I jumped straight into the shower when I got home.”

     

    Bette smiles. “It’s okay…but you know I’ve got a perfectly good shower right here,” she says with a teasing tone.

     

    Tina’s soft laugh drifts through the line. “Oh, I know. I think we proved that theory a few times.”
