Heart-Shaped Box, Ch. 40
Definitely, Bette said hurriedly, wincing as she realized she might just have an idea to what Shane was referring to.
I can also get you guys some handcuffs, if youre interested, Shane told them with a leer as she tipped the brim of her police hat.
Danas head popped up from Alices shoulder as she looked at her girlfriend, a gleam in her eye. Handcuffs? she said, sounding interested, before she could stop herself. Alice grinned.
Shane chuckled. Just give me a call. With that, she was out the door.
You guys are too much, Kit said, shaking her head.
Ive been telling them that for years, Bette pointed out.

Shane pulled her truck into a parking spot and headed inside the hotel, whistling softly to herself. Shed realized a lot of things lately, one being that it was okay to just have fun sometimes, and not be in such a rush to try and find something you werent ready for.
Shed realized love was a journey, and half the fun was getting there. So for now, Shane was just happy to be Shane, and wait for the path of her trip to become clear.
She stood in position outside the hotel room door, her key at the ready. Groping about in the back of her jeans, she removed a neon green water pistol. Brandishing it at the ready, she briskly knocked on the door. Police! Open up! she shouted.
No, youll never get me! a voice intoned loudly from inside, causing Shane to grin.
A door down the hall opened, and a man peered out with a worried expression. Um, go back in your room, sir. Everythings fine. Official police business, Shane said hurriedly, hiding the water gun behind her back. The man somewhat reluctantly went back into his room.
Shane grinned and lowered her voice some. Thats it, now Im going to have to come in there after you! She quickly unlocked the door and entered, holding the water gun out in front of her.
Officer Hutchinson stood there, without her uniform, and actually, not much on at all, with her hands in the air. No, officer! Youll never take me alive!
