Christopher, Ashley, Dana, Alice, Daniel and Alicia had been really supportive of Bette helping her with everything she needed, whether it was feeding her, talking to her or just keeping her company. Melvin and Maxine had been buried two days after their death, Tina wanted to wait for her wife to be able to say goodbye but she realised that wouldn’t be possible for the moment so she decided to go ahead with the funeral.

Ten really hard days had past, the kids were hardly eating, Tina wasn’t sleeping, they needed Bette, Melvin and Maxine, they all wanted nothing more than to be able to be all together and happy like they used to be. Christopher found it practically impossible to separate from his mothers so he would sleep in Bette and Tina’s bedroom every night, an extra bed had been placed next to Bette’s side of the room so both him and Ashley would be close by.

On the 13th night Tina was lying in bed next to her wife like every other night, she wasn’t able to fall asleep. It was really difficult for her to see Bette just lying there, no smile, no joy in her eyes, not even a sparkle, she lifted her hand and stroked her wife’s left cheek, “Babe?” she said hopefully after feeling her wife catch her breath.

She lifted her body a little using her elbow for support, she stroked Bette’s hair, forehead, jaw and stopped when her hand reached the back of Bette’s neck, “Bette!” she said with a huge grin when she saw her wife blink repeatedly. Tina started to massage the back of Bette’s neck and planted a kiss on her forehead when she saw a small smile on her wife’s lips, “Honey can you hear me?” she asked.

“Yes” Bette answered in a raspy voice and moved her head looking for Tina, “You’re here!” she lifted her hand and stroked Tina’s cheek.
“Yes sweetie i’m here and so are you” She lowered her body back down and pulled Bette into her arms, she stroked Bette’s back and kissed the side of her head when she felt her crying against her neck, “Shh sleep love, we’ll be ok” she said. Tina laid there awake for a couple hours more, stroking her wife’s back while humming Bette’s favorite song helping her fall asleep for a much needed rest.
