Chapter Sixteen
Early Sunday Morning
Tina had fallen asleep in Bette’s arms after another tearful apology, Bette shortly after. But now Bette was wide awake and wondering what the day would bring. She had been watching Tina sleep and couldn’t help but marvel at her peaceful innocence. It was hard to believe that just hours ago Bette thought things would surely end between them. She knew that was still a possibility, but felt that at least she had been given another day. She just wasn’t sure what to do with it. She thought a lot about what Tina had said last night.
‘Yeah, I think that’s what got us in this mess to begin with, your confusion.’
She had been confused, lost and confused and it had caused her to make some really bad choices. So how could she hold Tina’s behavior against her? She had to be just as lost and confused plus she had been blindsided by Bette’s infidelity. Neither had been emotionally sound through any of this. Tina knew Bette so well it was only natural for her to assume Bette would shut down and run; her self-preservation instincts were so strong.
As she watched Tina sleep she was sure of two things, that they still loved each other enough to make this work and that it was their own fear that was keeping them apart. She was most afraid of a future without Tina. As self absorbed as she could be at times she knew she was her best self with Tina. Tina had been the first woman she ever wanted a future with. Tina always said Bette was her “first, last and forever” referring to never being with another woman and Bette felt the same about Tina when she thought of spending her life with someone.
She knew she had destroyed Tina’s trust and it was up to her to do whatever it took to rebuild it and with all she had learned and was still learning in therapy she felt confident it could be done. She remembered Foxworthy telling her she would have to be fully accountable to Tina for a long time before she ever trusted her again. She needed to know what Tina feared most, that’s where she would start.

Wow that was amazing. Sorry you weren’t feeling well. Glad to see you are feeling better.
Bette, a defeatist? Well, I guess everyone has their breaking point. I just hope she doesn’t do anything rash or premature ’cause my heart is still waiting for Tina’s fears to dissipate enough for her to realize that she and Bette deserve a second chance. Thanks for the update. I hope you feel better soon.
Get well soon. Tina needs to realize she does deserve Bette and let them both have a second chance.
Wow this really good, and amazing story, Bette and Tina hava a difficult time to figure out how they have to make their relationship back to normal and how important of their life. I hope they work it out as well. Please write more. Love it. “I hope you get better soon”. Good to see you writing back again, thank you.!
That conversation was very real.. true to life. My heart is broken at the thought of Bette leaving..
I miss you and your stories! welcome back! I love your stories because you didn’t make it overtly melodramatic. Your take on Bette is really good and even on Tina’s. I hope you feel better soon.. We’ll just see how it plays out hmm..?
So glad to have you back–wonderful chapter.
I don’t see Bette as a defeatist here (no offense seven) I think she just loves Tina so much that she is respecting her (possible) choice…Bette committed the ultimate marital sin and to ask Tina to recommit and trust again could be impossible…I really love how you have kept this so realistic, my opinion anyway…these guys do love each other but sometimes love isn’t enough…on that note I really do hope they work it out and get back together but thanks for keeping it real…nice tribute to sea! Bravo!!!
I’ve been missing this like crazy. Good to see you back. Well done!
I could read what you write all day, hoping love will keep these two together.
This was a beautiful chapter…the emotions, the processing, the dialogue…all very real. I’ve said it before, I love this story. Your writing style is so easy to read.
Oh, and thanks for the mention of my story…but let’s not make your Bette and Tina wait 15 years before they can be together again!! Please!! :)
Missed your story tremendously, you do such an amazing job writing it. I will be sad when it’s completed…surely hope B&T lovers like myself, will be happy with the ending.
my god, they’re a torturous pair; kit’s right…let it play itself out bette don’t precipitate a premature end…brilliant writing.
