I Need My Best Friend – Part 9
Bette spent the next half hour looking through the paper and drinking too much coffee. She knew Tina would be finished soon so she ordered a coffee to go for her and decided to start back. She noticed a shaded area with some benches where she could still see the entrance and decided to wait there. A few minutes later she saw Tina come out of the building and head toward the car. As Bette got closer she noticed Tina was crying.
‘Tina? What’s wrong?’
‘Go away Bette, just leave me alone.’
‘No. Tina look at me, please.’
‘Just go inside Bette, I need some time to myself.’
‘All right, I got a coffee for you, I’ll just leave it.’
Bette turned and walked away thinking, “This is the second time today she’s brought you to tears. You need to get a grip before you see Foxworthy.”
Tina watched Bette leave thinking, “You couldn’t just tell her you had a really tough session and you need a little time before the two of you have to go in. Foxworthy was right. You’re trying to punish her for turning your safe little world upside down. It doesn’t matter that you had a hand in your relationship deteriorating, she feels bad enough, but you just keep piling it on. Maybe that way you don’t have to deal. Go talk to her before we go up.”
‘I’m sorry about the way I spoke to you. Thanks for the coffee.’
No response.
‘Are you ignoring me?’
‘No.’
Tina noticed how weak her voice was and lifted Bette’s chin so she could see her face, she was crying.
‘Oh Bette, I’m sorry.’
‘Three times, must be some kind of record for me.’
‘What?’
‘Nothing, I’m going to go to the restroom before we go up, actually why don’t I just meet you up there.’
‘I’d rather wait. We still have plenty of time. You don’t really need to go to the restroom do you?’
‘No.’
‘Do you want me to leave you alone?’
‘No. I want this to stop. We can’t keep doing this.’
‘I don’t understand what happened we were doing so well trying to talk through everything.’

I am just getting caught up with this story its so good. I can understand Tina’s struggle and I know she will overcome the anger when she realizes her love outweighs the anger. GREAT story
that was great, I so agree it is about time. work it out
Very good, you had me hoping all the way, that Tina would budge just a little. Bette is on her way and has accepted her mistakes and is taking on the responsibility to recetify them. I will be waiting for the next chapter. I hope that it won;t be too long. Thanks
I was really concerned about the direction this post took. Thanks so much for the feedback. Sorry I take so long between posts.
This was so right on. Kudos to Bette for leaving at the end…she was both right to leave, and very brave to leave as well. Well done!!
One says that they are sorry, making attempts to change, showing remores, showing how much love they have for the one they love. Is all one needs to show. Tina wow she has to deal with that angier or she will lose out. Catch the next chapter.
I agree with abouttime. Bette has apologized enough and I’m sure it was difficult for her to just walk out but it had to be done. No more dancing around the guilt and the same issues. Its time to move forward and begin the healing process. Excellent chapter, asalways!
I agree with what everyone else has said. Good on Bette. Tina needs to sort herself out.
Bette was ready to face some of her issues while Tina isn’t. I do agree that in order for it to work, both parties have to be ready. Time helps a lot though in that duration, it’ll be like hell.
I found this a very emotionally powerful chapter and echo everyone’s comments regarding Bette’s willingness and Tina’s cowardice.
Thanks for posting!
good for bette! not just leaving, but explaining why she was leaving just shows the depth of her love. its up to tee now to do some soul searching.
great chapter, well worth the wait.
i agree with everyone else-it was time to go. Thanks for taking the time to write this great story
This is bloody brilliant. I do empathize with Tina and I do love Bette.
