Later that evening after all the guests left Tina sat with Kay on the living room couch.  Idly she stroked Kay’s golden hair.  Kay looked as defeated as she felt. 

            “Please tell me that I did not tell Theresa that she was immature and rigid?”

            “Sorry, I can’t say that because you did.”

            “Rosanna was upset with me wasn’t she?  I seem to remember her looking at me as if she didn’t know who I was.  Did I proposition her?  Did I embarrass myself?”

            “Not exactly.”

            “Tell me.” Kay mumbled.  “I can only pray that it is not as bad as I imagine.”

            “Well you did tell Theresa that she was immature and rigid and you didn’t proposition Rosanna but everyone including Rosanna is in no doubt how you feel about her.”

            “Oh no.” Kay buried her head in her hands. “What did I say? I don’t remember saying anything.  I remember looking at Ro and just wanting her to now how much I love and care for her.”

            “That’s exactly what you did.  The look you gave her told everyone including her how you feel about her.”

            “No.”

            “Yes.”

            “How could a look do that?”

            “If I had a camera I could just show you.  There was a look on your face of such incredible love and longing that I had to look away.  Rosanna saw it and I heard her gasp across the room.  She had no idea how you feel about her. I can’t even tell you how close Bette looked to pulverizing you. “

            Kay peeked at Tina though the fingers that she had spread across her face.  She saw complete seriousness and closed her eyes. 

            “This effect that Rosanna is having on the women around here is really beginning to tick me off.  Bette, Theresa and you are really hard on a girl’s ego.” Tina huffed half in jest.  Tina was starting to feel as defeated as Kay looked. 

            Hearing the despair in Tina’s voice shook Kay out of her self pity.  “Tina, it’s complicated as you well know.  I don’t think you will ever stop loving or wanting Bette.  Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. I don’t think that you can let go of Bette anymore than I can let go of Rosanna.  It’s like that Sarah McLaughlin song – ‘We’ do what ‘we’ have to do.
