    How do you make love to a woman???

    “Stubble-burn?” Tina asked, smiling at Bettes description.

    “Yes…you know how you get carpet burn when you slide on the carpet…well, you get stubble-burn when you are kissing a man.” Bette slightly shook her head, unconsciously bringing her hand up to her face, and caressing her cheek. “My cheeks always felt raw and a little numb after kissing guys…like a carpet-burn.”

    Tina and Danis eyes met, and they shared a conspiratorial smile, not wanting to laugh out loud at Bettes description of something she hadnt experience in over thirty years.

    “Ok,” Dani prompted her. “What else?”

    Bette smiled at Tina with a look that said, Dont worry, Ill handle this. But, then the more she thought about what she wanted to say…the more jumbled her thoughts became.

    “Uh…” Bette sat there, seeing what she wanted to say in her mind, but struggling with how to verbally describe what she was thinking…so, as she was picturing it in her mind, she automatically raised her arms out in front of her, with her palms facing up. “Well, your uh…” Her eyes lowered to Danis *****, and her hands started to twist in a circular motion, like she was turning a door *****.

    Tina looked at her partner in disbelief, reached out and quickly lowered Bettes arms, shaking her head at her.

    “Good God Bette! Lets stick with a verbal explanation, shall we? I dont think any of us needs an actual visual demonstration!”

    Bette turned beet red and lowered her head. “Oh…right…right…” She took a deep breath. “Okay.”

    Tina turned back to her daughter, trying to keep the smile off her face, while in her mind, she was thinking, Oh my God, could Bette be any more adorable?!

    She noticed the confused, but curious look on Danis face, and then finally allowed her smile to come, hoping to reassure the young woman, who had clearly, deeply surprised them both with her questions.

    “Honey, obviously caressing your partners ***** are an important part of making love…”

    Taking a quick moment to lighten the mood, she looked over at Bette, and then raising her eyebrows, and grinning at Dani, said, “But, please make sure that no matter what you are doing with a woman, you dont ever try to caress her ***** using the same…uh…technique that MaBe just used!”

    Tina and Dani both burst out laughing, while Bette on the other hand, just lowered her head into her hands, shaking it back and forth, mumbling… “This cannot be happening…it just cant be…”

Talking about sex with your parents is rarely number one on our list of things to do…and even more so from a parents perspecitive. You are doing an amazing job of leading them all through this maze of awkwardness.

      It is such a pleasure to read this story as you have taken B&T through rediscovery, reaffirmation of undying love, long distance relationship, Tina’s decision to out herself to her children and their father, a medical crisis, their ability to finally, make a home together and now being faced with a parents most dreaded time, having to discuss sex with your child. Not that the discussion in and of itself,is any more uncomfortable than the realization that your child is no longer a “child”. Sincerely hope that your “writers block” is gone. I would love to see you take this story into the twilight of B&T’s life….with new generations coming into their family, in a future world where same sex marriages are as common as heterosexual ones.
