The two women were silent for a moment as they both thought back to the intervening years since that fateful decision to have Tina quit her job at Alphaville.
“A lot has happened since then,” Tina said.
“Yes,” Bette responded as she unconsciously tugged on her shirt.
Again silence fell over them…the comfortable silence that came from knowing the other person intimately.
“So…what…”
“How’s…”
They both started talking at the same time, causing a smile to appear on each of their faces. “You go first,” Tina encouraged.
Without thinking about her actions, Bette slipped off her flip-flop and reaching out with her foot connected with Tina’s. “I was going to ask…and you by no means have to tell me…but I was wondering…”
Bette’s voice trailed off to a whisper, then silence again.
“Wondering what,” Tina prodded.
Looking into Tina’s eyes, Bette took a deep breath. “I was wondering what you meant when you said you weren’t happy?”
“Oh,” Tina gave Bette a sad smile.
“I mean…” Bette started to feel her nerves attacking her stomach. “Was it just Henry, or…” Bette stopped, unable to give in to the glimmer of hope that was determined to work its way into her heart.
Tears filled Tina’s eyes as she watched Bette’s unsuccessful struggle to control her facial expression, knowing it was an exact reflection of the emotions that lay just beneath the skin.
Tina’s own heart ached as she thought back to her unsuccessful attempts over the last two years to let go of the guilt she carried for not only breaking apart their family, but for making such a predicable mistake in thinking that men would be the answer to all her insecurities.
After the glow of “normality” had worn off, which was a whole lot faster than she expected, she quickly realized how dismissive her decision had been. It gave no consideration to the complexities of any romantic relationship no matter the orientation. It went against what her heart had been screaming at her. It gave no credit to the diverse society around her. It was made with a broad and shallow belief that all it would take to make her ‘safe’ and take away all of Angie’s ‘otherness’ was a ‘good man’ in their lives.

Oh that was so perfect. I love that Tina figured it out herself. Its better that way, funny actually when you think that Bette missed all the signs of Tina’s pregnacy and ended up being embarassed by Helena getting it before Bette did. This is Tina at her best now the question is what will Tina do with this knowledge. Great Chapter Seahurst thanks for the telling

Never saw that one coming. Now I want to know Tinas’ next comment. Also I want Tina to continue to tell Bette what she was about to say. They both need to hear it and talk about it so very much. Thanks for posting.

Ally–you are freakin’ hysterical! I loved your comment! OK, so that was amazing. The simple flow of the story, going along and having Bette and Tina have this amazing dialog, and then BAM–ginger candy which I remember well from my days! Now that she understands that Bette is pregnant, what will Tina do? This is truly the time where I think they’ll be tested and I can’t wait to find out where they go from here. The easy road would be for Tina to walk away and go back to life as it was before she understood Bette is pregnant, but I don’t think Tina could do that. I think it would haunt her that Bette is pregnant and she isn’t part of it, that’s love. Keep on going!

Oh man, they were doing so good. I really was hoping that could move forward as a family again, but no, Bette is pregnant with jodi/new girlfriend’s baby.

Cliffhanger! I kinda thought with the combination of Bette’s baggy clothes and Bette’s therapist making that comment about telling Tina something that Bette might be pregnant. I wanna know if either one of them is in a relationship! Bette doesn’t have any rings on so that’s a good sign. I want Tina to finish her sentence…..
