Tina reached their table and sat down – expecting Bette to join her but when she looked round she was chatting to another woman. Tina frowned – what the hell was up with Bette ? Was she chatting to this woman because she was pissed off about being pulled up over Jodie. Tina started to chat to Rosemary and Melvin – she deeply adored Bette’s parents and really appreciated their support for her relationship with their daughter.

Helena smiled “ Are you having problems with Bette’s harem being in attendance?”
“Is that what they are ?”
“Not really – that was a joke – Bette has lots of admirers – its just the way she is. She doesn’t encourage them – and she wouldn’t encourage them now – not when she has you”

Helena smiled “You are getting paranoid if you think for a second that Jodie is any threat . Jodie – as much as I love her – is a fucking maniac. Bette is way too sensible to go anywhere near Jodie “
Tina sighed “I have seen off some of her admirers before “

Helena smiled “I don’t know to be honest – that was a side to her the other week that I really didn’t like and I don’t want to be with anyone who can be as mean as that”

Tina looked across at Bette who was still sitting and chatting away with Marina.

“So what are you going to do about it ?” Helena asked – a lot of women had crashed on the rocks of Bette’s band of admirers – she didn’t think that Tina was threatened by the women – she was annoyed by Bette though. This was going to be an unexpected piece of cabaret for her birthday.
“Have another drink and think about it – when are you going to let my mother out of the dog house ?”

Tina winked at Helena and headed to the bar – she ordered one of Rosemary’s famous cocktails and stood by the bar drinking it and considering what to do that would make Bette pay her some attention.
The music started and people started to dance – yes – that would be perfect. Tina looked around to find someone who she could dance with and it would make Bette nice and jealous. She drained her drink which made her eyes water and walked over to a very attractive short haired brunette

Tina took to the dance floor and was soon moving very provocatively with Dylan who she remembered from one of Bette’s potted history of Helena was one of the rich woman’s exes. “So why is she at her party ?”

“You noticed “ Tina said after finishing washing her hands and taking a paper towel to dry it.
“Of course I did”
“Oh – you tore your attentions from Marina then ?”
Tina swung round and faced Bette “Do not give me grief for doing the same shit that I was doing. The difference is – I was doing it to get your attention – you were just doing it to rub my nose in it “

Bette’s eyes were flashing with anger – the problem was that she could see the same fire in Tina’s eyes.
“Marina is a friend”
“She was sitting mighty close to you for a “friend “ “
“She’s Italian- they have a different idea of personal space “
“You didn’t think to introduce her to me ?”
Bette sighed – she looked down at her feet and looked back and smiled

Tina let out a breath of air – that had been what she had wanted – and at least it had happened in private. Tina dropped the paper towel in the waste bin and walked across to Bette
“I trust you – I have no fears about you and Marina or you and Jodie or any other woman. You aren’t on the market anymore “
