is this love chp 96
“I am sure I would have – I hope it gives you pleasure “
“It gives me huge pleasure – its special. I am sure that I have pieces that are more expensive but none of them are going to mean more to me than this one “
“I am sure he will be watching over you when you are doing deals “
“Yes – maybe only Tina will understand this and maybe I am getting sentimental in my old age but it does give me a good feeling to have him watching me “
“It might stop some of your antics “
Peggy laughed “Good point – I just wanted to come and thank you and settle my bill for it. I want to know what it cost you to get that piece commissioned and done with such speed “
“I haven’t got round to adding it all up “
“Well lets go and do that now – and there will be a bonus for how thoughtful and kind you were to think of such a genuine special piece – also I want to ask you and Tina to call in tonight after work around 6:30-7:00 – I want to unveil the painting – a few friends and would you ring your parents and see if they are free – we could have dinner later “
“Tina is locking up the bookstore at 6pm – we will come over then – we are going away tomorrow for a long weekend “
“I hope the two of you have a great time – I am sure you will – I know she loves the bookstore but I do want her to come and work full time for me “
“I know that she knows that Peggy – you do not do subtle “
“I have never seen the point of being subtle – subtle is such a waste of time “
“I wouldn’t have guessed – come on through to my office Peggy – would you like a drink ?”
***
Bette arrived at the bookstore just before 6pm and slipped inside the store and Tina was serving a young woman. Tina handed her the books she had bought and showed her to the door so she could lock up. Tina locked the door with a key and went back to the till
“Hey sexy “
Tina grinned “Hi – how are you ?”
“Affluent “ Bette replied
“Really ?”
Bette took the envelope that she had written up with the cheques she had taken that day. On the way to Peggy’s office she would drop it off at the bank. She showed the bank envelope to Tina
“Wow – that is a lot of cheques “
“It is “
“Three cheques of over $10,000 “
“Yes – that is a good day by anyone’s standards “
“What did you sell ?”
“That mystery guy who I told you keeps coming in and looking at the painting, then Peggy appeared to settle her bill for the yacht painting and the third cheque came recorded delivery for a piece I sold last week “
Tina kissed Bette “You can buy dinner “
“We have been invited to Peggy’s office at 6:30 – she wants to unveil the painting”
Tina raised an eyebrow
“She also wanted to invite my parents – mom is picking dad up at his office and they are coming over. I imagine there will be champagne and probably some nibs”
“Has she invited Helena ?”
“Didn’t ask – I took James advice and didn’t get on my usual theme of banging the drum for them. They are grown ups and they need to defend themselves and not act like idiots “
“I think they are set in idiot mode “
Bette snorted and picked a book out of the display beside the counter
“I am not thinking about them – I am just so thrilled that we are going away tomorrow “
“It will great to get you to myself – the last few weeks have been insane. I really could do with some long spells of nothing happening but work, being with you and enjoying some movies “
“The winter will be here before we know it and that will be the cue for some long nights in with you and wine and food “
“And movies ?”
“And movies “ Bette agreed
“I am looking forward to spending Thanksgiving and Christmas with you “
“And eating my mom’s cooking ?”
“Added bonus “ Tina smiled
Bette lost herself in looking through the new books on display while Tina cashed up. Once that was done they walked to the bank together so they could both deposit the takings they had brought in that day. They walked along the sidewalk together holding hands and both totally at ease with one another.
“How was Peggy ?”
“Totally wrapped up with the painting – I don’t think this is going to be a small event “
“It will be the first time anyone I work with will have seen me and my partner”
“I wont shame you “
“You never will “ Tina replied knowing that Bette was teasing her
“I know that as well – look – if things look like getting hairy we will grab one another and my parents and head for the exit “
“Sounds like a good battle plan General Porter “
“As James pointed out it is not our battle – if Helena and your mom can be a couple they can fight their own battles. You and I need to just get on with being ridiculously in love “
Tina chuckled and kissed Bette
“Its not easy “
“No “Bette said pensively “Not for either of us but I am not letting anything get between us “
“We have done very well not to argue about them “

The dragon has been awakened! Time to leave town Bette and Tina. Actually, I think this is perfect way to get revenge on Emma. Emma got what she wanted and Bette made her client happy. Helena is now in love with the painting owned by her mother and the one without dear ole Dad just will not be the same. How will Emma respond? How will Tina respond? This is now personal with Emma. It just business for Bette and Tina. And the war between Peggy and Emma has just drawn blood.
What a story….. Can’t wait to see how Bette responds with Rosemary and Melvin watching and with Tina by her side. And Helen and Peggy in the audience, its not going to be pretty. The drama abounds.
Keep it coming. I am sitting on the edge of my seat. It not like we couldn’t see this coming. But how its gets resolved? I haven’t a clue.
Thank you for this drama….. love it.
Couldn’t have said it better Martha!
This story is fantastic! I hope you will give us a update asap! I want to know so much how Emma is going to respond and it is clearly Bette she sees as the enemy now.
Completely agree with these two!
Please Ally don’t leave us too long! I know you have your Drama Queen Title to promote but have pity on us poor isolating fans!
SG
Wow, I have been busy all week and caught up this morning with coffee and binge reading! What a twist! Martha is on target….please post soon. The suspense of how Bette and Tina will respond to Emma’s outburst towards Bette. And, Rosemary and Melvin will certainly have some special words for Emma. Oh, this is going to not end well for Emma. More of this story soon….please!
This cannot end well under any possible scenario. Emma calling Bette a bitch???? How will that remark alone play out with Tina, Rosemary, and Melvin? Not well!!!!! This showdown was not calculated by Peggy and the painting clearly is such a personal and sentimental reminder of her beloved husband and Helena’s father. Emma is so blinded by her selfishness and greed she could not keep her mouth shut. Bette had to protect both her professional and personal relationship with Peggy. The original painting is still Helena’s but that is not good enough for Emma. If this is not handled properly it will destroy Bette and Helena’s friendship which is beyond tragic. Emma has made a spectacle of herself in public and potentially embarrassed Bette at what was to be such a happy moment. Emma was not an invited guest. I love this story and I am enjoying playing out the possibilities of what happens next. How can Helena possibly condone Emma’s behavior? Sadly she might. She will lose Bette. Perhaps Emma underestimated Helena’s understanding of Peggy’s devotion to her father. I really hope Helena gets her mind right. Bette is her best friend. She did nothing wrong in any way. She did everything right. Peggy did nothing wrong. Tina, get your mother under control! Again, Emma calling Bette a bitch – a bitch – in public? Yikes!!!!!!
Emma has jumped the shark! Away goes Tina, away goes Melvin and Rosemary, away goes Helena if she has not totally screwed her brains away. Emma vs Peggy! Lets get ready to rumble!
What a mature thing to say, Emma. Grow up! That woman annoys me. She might be wealthy enough to play in Peggy’s league but she is missing every bit of the class and style that Peggy has. Nouveau riche comes to my mind. Arrrggh!!!
She’s not only acting like a teenager in love but like a spoiled teenager who always get her way and is pissed when she doesn’t get what she wants. She doesn’t have the least inkling what the painting symbolizes and what it means to both Peggy and Helena. Just a guess but judging by H’s reaction I’d say Helena might even have given the painting to her mother – birthday present or not.
As for her affair with Helena….sigh… it was funny for a week or two.
Let me go off on a tangent for a moment. I’m wondering whether she’s staying with H because she’s jealous of Tina and her beautiful, successful girlfriend. And of the fact that her daughter overcame her grief and gets on with her own life just fine. Without Emma, without her watching and nagging constantly.
Maybe that’s why she is trying to outdo her daughter with a fling with a woman who could be Bette’s sister.
Emma reminds me of Tom Cruise when he started seeing Katie Holmes. The age difference was only about ten years but I remember some interviews where he was trying to talk like a twenty-something and to appear much younger. Unbearable.
That said, I hope there are enough adults around to put Emma on the naughty step until she is able to apologize to Bette, Tina, Peggy, Helena, well to everybody. ;-)
I hope that Tina and Bette will get out of this unscathed, still very much in love and able to enjoy their weekend.
Thank you for sharing, Ally! Always a pleasure to read.
Love this story. Every twist and turn keeps me wanting more.
