Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Fifteen and a Half (based loosely on HYD: Returns)

    “Hm?”

“I’d like you to meet my Eric..” The redhead motioned to the marble niche behind her. “Love, this is Bette Porter..”

“Hey Eric..” Bette managed to choke out as her forehead sweat bullets. “Nice to finally meet you. Uh.. here.. this is for you..” She revealed the bouquet that she was hiding behind her back and placed it beside the vase with the sunflowers. She stepped away quickly when that was done, feeling goosebumps riddling her skin. Shit, she needed to get out of here. She could feel a panic attack happening if she lingered far too long. “Uh.. Jilly?”

    “Yes?”

“I’m gonna step out for a while, okay?”

“Are you sure? You can stay if you want..” Jill offered, patting the empty foldable stool beside her own.

“No thanks..” Bette managed a polite smile, keeping her gaze purposely locked on Jill’s face and not the glaring epitaph behind the redhead – pounding Eric Walker’s name inside her head. “I want to give you some privacy with him.”

“Are you sure? Its a little hot outside.”

“Positively sure.” Bette answered a little too quickly. This mausoleum, although cool from being sheltered from the midday sun, was giving her added chills. “Besides, I’m from LA. I’m used to the heat.” She gave a tiny shrug, taking a few tiny steps backward until her back hit the wrought iron gate.

“Okay,” Jill relented, deciding not to push it any further. “Just don’t hesitate to go in whenever you want to. I think I’ll still be a few minutes more. Will that be okay?”

“Of course.” Bette gave a slight nod, pulling down her shades from her head and giving her eyes some cover. “Take all the time you want. I’ll just sit under there..” She pointed a thumb at a nearby willow tree before quickly disappearing outside.

Though initially intrigued, Jill brushed aside her friend’s flighty and fidgety behavior as her way of showing her some consideration. Leaving Bette’s retreating form, her eyes shifted to the fresh smelling bouquet that was resting atop her husband’s marble grave. She distinctly remembered telling Bette not to bring anything since she’d be bringing Eric fresh flowers herself. She didn’t expect this, and she sure as hell didn’t plan it. Of all the different varieties of flowers in the world, Bette just had to choose white lilies.

If this was a coincidence, it sure was a bone-chilling and a hair-raising one.

Jill took a deep breath, filled her lungs with air and closed her eyes – steadying herself, calming her heightened emotions before standing up to her feet and walking a step forward. Slowly, she lifted her eyelids and blinked several times, trying to clear her vision of the tears that had welled up and rendered her without a sight. The moment they flowed down her cheeks, her world cleared up and she had a nice view of the beautiful lilies. She reached out and stroked a petal with her fingers, feeling their silkiness on her skin. And she smiled. A sad, bittersweet smile – before she looked up at the clear blue sky through the circular hole on the mausoleum’s ceiling. She had asked him for a sign.. and Eric, Jill smiled wistfully, her Eric, answered in true Eric Walker fashion.

“So this is your answer?” Jill whispered to the wind, gazing fondly at the white lilies. She had expected to receive a sign in a few days.. in a few weeks.. in a few months. She wasn’t expecting one this fast. But Eric was Eric and.. “You were never one to take your time..”

    tbc..

    Next: Heartless. :(

    1. Perfect timing, that classes has been suspended in my part of town, therefore got time to read and re-read your posts without distractions. Hope Jill will not interpret Bette bringing white lillies into something its totally not. Or will she?

    2. hmmmmmmm… did eric bring jill white lillies… and she is thinking its ok for her to go after bette.. I THINK NOT… one more week… come on home tina… remember my heart… pps

    3. Had to comment twice. I think Bette had a dream about standing in a field of white lilies covered in blood. If I am remembering correctly, then this is definitely not a good sign. Still loving alch.

    4. Poor Jill. I hope she can start letting go, without misreading Bette’s offering of white lilies. What did Alice know about Eric? When’s that going to come to light? Or maybe it shouldn’t. And your preview: Heartless? *blinks* Should I be worried, or… Nahhh. I’m just gonna trust you, Alch. Thanks for the “half” chapter. :)

    5. What an amazing ride this is!! I told you before … you’re writing is a book I can’t put down… one i would read in a day!! I’m a little worried too about “heartless”….. :)

    6. Oh, is this a good sign or a bad sign? It is a good sign in that Jill has been given the go ahead to move forward, but it could be a bad sign if Bette is that person that Jill wants.

    7. That doesn’t sounded right to me:(Come on Jill, the lilies didn’t mean anything, really. And another week to go…hopefully Tina will be back soon, even though I don’t know if anything could be changed if Jill made up her mind:(So much drama, and I can’t stop reading it.PPS

    8. oh nooooooo… Why is the clue ‘heartless’? :( It’s going to be bitter sweet huh? Though knowing this is essentially a Tibette story, I can’t help but to feel down about the incoming temporary(i hope) separation- even after the week :O

    9. woooo that was a longgg chapter, not that im complaining, it was brilliant.i hope that Jill doesn’t misinterpret the flowers as a sign that she should be with Bette. even though she said she would never take Bette away from anyone, she might change her mind because of the “sign” from Eric. im gonna join the other devote Tibette fans and say “Bring Tina home” pretty please. anyway thanks for the post and PPS

    10. OMG! Alchy…you ended with a :(. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cling to your inner-Tibetteness that happy is in the future. You wrote the tender moment between Eric and Jill. Well done! Of course…you set us up for that white lily moment. UGG!!!! Please, Jill go away soon…PPS! Love ya Alchy…you so Rock!!!!!!

    11. I am a silent reader….most of the time. But what can I say! Thank you for this story……I love the Bette that you created…..she is different. PPS

    12. You know, you make it difficult for me to leave my place for some days. Even if it is to bring a little sanity in my brain. It’ s the second time that I wasn’ t home and when I’ m back I read two chapters like these two. Hmp… (frustrated sigh)! I want them back together. I can’ t take it any longer. Please… please bring them back together! It hurts too much… Please? Kisses.
