Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Seven (based loosely on HYD: Returns)

Pressing speed dial one on her mobile, she brought the device to her ear and waited for the person on the other line to pick up.

    —-

“Hey, how’s my sexy fire lady doing?” Bette purred into the receiver as soon she heard the familiar sweet voice with the southern twang tickling her ears.

Tina groaned and rolled her eyes. “If you still insist on calling me that, I’m hanging up on you..”

“Are you sure about that my baby? I’m heading over to the nearest Burger King as we speak, planning to buy you a big, juicy will-probably-clog-your-arteries Triple Whopper with cheese..”

    “…”

“Uh, hello?” Bette pulled back the phone and looked at the screen. “Kennard? Love, are you still there?”

“Babe, just call me the fire goddess..”

Bette laughed. “I thought so.” She donned a cocky smirk. “Onion rings and large Coke, right?”

    “Uh-huh.”

    “And an apple pie too.”

A dreamy sigh escaped Tina’s lips, her mouth was literally watering. “God, I love you.”

“I know, though I’m gonna pretend that you said that now not just because I’m bringing you home junk for dinner.”

“You know me too well..” Tina chuckled a bit but then paused after a moment. “Wait a minute..”

    “Hmm?”

“Why are you willingly buying me junk food? And oh my God, Bette Porter is voluntarily going to an icky fast food chain?! Has hell frozen over?”

    “Huh?”

“I smell something fishy here.” Tina spoke up and rubbed her chin. This is more suspicious than a man bringing home flowers to his wife for no apparent reason. “Did you do something bad babe?”

    “What?!”

“Did you accidentally erase my shows on the TiVo?”

    “No..”

“Crash my computer again by downloading porn?”

“Uh.. no.. by the way, that was actually Shane’s fault..”

“You’re guilty by association. Anyway, did you flirt with that Calculus prof of yours?”

Bette sighed. “Let’s clear things up once and for all, okay? I was not flirting with her, I was merely being nice and helpful. And for the love of God, she’s twice – hell, thrice – my age!”

“Fine, fine. So what did you do? Did you shrink my favorite shirt in the dryer?”

“That ratty Aerosmith shirt with holes under the arm? Please. I would’ve ripped that thing to shreds – I wouldn’t have bothered shrinking it.”

“Meanie! Were you the one who ate my stash of spicy beef jerky then?”

“Eww.. no!” Bette pulled a disgusted face. “You know what, this is getting absurd, I’m gonna hang up now.”

    “Are you cheating on me?”

“HELL NO!” Bette screamed, scaring the crap out of the people walking around her. She took a deep breath and toned it down a notch. “I’m just happy today, the um.. meeting went well. So excuse me for wanting to do something to make you happy too.” She pouted. “Seriously, I try to do something you’d like for once and then you start questioning my intentions. Ouch, baby. Kinda foul.”

“Sorry..” Tina apologized in a small voice. “I went a little too far with my joke, hm?”

    “What do you think?”

“I’ll show you how sorry I am when you get home..” Tina promised in a low voice.

    “Looking forward to it.”

“You’ll still be getting me food from BK right?”

“Yes. But forget about the Triple Whopper with cheese, I’m buying you those tiny kiddie burgers instead.”

    “But-”

“And instead of onion rings, I’m getting you carrot sticks from the grocery. And forget about the large coke, you’re getting those healthy blended fruit shakes that taste like horse diarrhea and look like them too.”

    “Aww.. Porteeerrrrr!!!” Tina whined.

“Payback, my fire goddess. I’ll see you at home – stay away from the candles, ‘kay? Love you.” She pressed the disconnect button and ended the call, jogging to another pedestrian crossing lane. She could see the Burger King sign in the near distance. Like this morning, she waited for the light to turn green – but unlike the Bette of five hours ago, a big hopeful smile adorned her youthful face. Finally, something to look forward to.

    1. stay away from the candles, ha – love it!! it will be interesting to see how bette reacts to kate cos even though she knows tina would never go for anyone else our bette is always impulsive, potentially jealous and definately capable of violence…bring.the.meeting.on!!! ooh and i agree with carolyn1m the “…” – always make me smirk!! pps alch!

    2. Awesome …gla dthat U are back. I am gla dthat bette went to a therapy session…but she needs to open up to Tina. I also agree w/ Alice Kate is trouble. I love the teasing flirting goin on between Tina & Bette. So cute. Love it…

    3. Genius, making Candy the shrink. Way to use the characters. I’m also glad that she is married, not that it has stopped anyone before. Hopefully she is happily married. Thanks for the post, I know finals are coming up, and you made time for this. Are you taking any summer classes?

    4. Second post, I know, I’m working on getting a life. I was reading JTG I and came across the incest part, and then thought about IC insulting our intelligence with TK’s interrogation scene. Just wanted to mention that, tah for now. LOL

    5. all caught up again… what a story… love this… so glad candice is not into bette… but this kate… she better watch her ass… can’t wait for the next chapter… PPS

    6. That was great and glad cadace is therapy and nothing more, and glad she help Bette with the problem. And about kate, she better run before Bette see her or Bette gonna kick her ass. Please post more, thanks!

    7. Actually, this was an awesome chapter. I was able to see a young, bright, beautiful woman come to terms with her former behavior. Bette is growing up and becoming a better person. I am with Alice, I am not too found of Kate and you are making me nervous. Who is this new person that Bette is going to meet?

    8. I was runnin’ way behind on this story and now I’m all caught up. I love this story but I see the drama on the horizon! Be careful…I have a fragile Tibette heart. LOL

    9. I miss NYC, with the people pushing and shoving. NOT!!!!!! I’m happy that Bette had a good therapy session. But, I am trying to accept Candace as a GOOD person. Still trying to picture it. Still trying…… Kate is going to cause trouble for Tina. I hope Alice keeps a close eye on Kate, just in case Tina gets into trouble. Great post. PPS

    10. Okay..I know it sounds crazy but your ‘…’ really make me LOL and smile for the rest of the day..so BIG special thanks friend! Good chapter..it explained some things, and I have to agree with Alice re: Kate! Oh Bette is sooo gonna hate her!! Can not wait!!I love the drama you put tin cause unlike someone with the intials IC tthe drama doesn’t last a life time:)so many many thanks! you are awesome and… I LOVE this story!

    11. Why do I have a bad feeling that Tina is going to catch Bette with Candace in the future. As for Kate, sure Bette will hate her… but she might play with her too. Kate could be a fun pet….That sounded better in my head.

    12. Ok I am taking back what I said about Candace, she is good here so that is fine lol. but this kate??? she does not want to live for long. Alch agin great chapter can’t stop laughing about what happened after ette “meeting”. Love the love these two are sharing. I ope Bett will hare her problem with Tina soon becuse I sure her upport will be great and help to Bette cure. PPVS

    13. I’m glad Bette’s getting therapy, and I hope she sticks with it, it’s clearly helping some. Kate = big trouble. I wonder if Bette will see right through the girl straight away, or will she be as oblivious as Tina is? …Nah. If her bff Sam has to maintain distance from Tina at all times outside of Bette’s supervision, I think Bette will hire a squadron of ninjas to keep Kate at bay. Great chapter, Alchemy, thanks!
