Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Thirteen (based loosely on HYD: Returns)

“Well.. Sam’s on her way home, finally. I thought she’d never get her ass back here.”

    “Why?”

“Her jet got stuck in Paris for nearly a day because of bad weather and then to make matters worse, when they finally took off, they re-routed and took an emergency landing in a small airstrip in the middle of nowhere because of mechanical problems. I dunno, that always happens when she travels by air. That girl is one big ball of bad luck inside a plane, hopefully she’ll make it back in one piece.”

“And Shane? What happened to her?”

Alice gave out a low growl – and Tina could swear she could see her friend rolling her eyes at the other end of the line. “Don’t get me started with that one. The last time I saw Shane was when she turned up in the sushi bar to warn you about Porter. I’ve been trying her cell for the past two days, but I keep getting re-directed to her voicemail. Horndog’s probably in Jersey – stuck between Clara’s legs. You know how she is when she’s fooling around and high as a kite, the rest of the world fades away in the background.” Alice grumbled, annoyed by her bestfriend’s absence. “But she’ll probably be back today. After all, it’s Ladies Night at the Lounge and its also Porter’s birthday the day after tomorrow.”

    “…”

    “TK?”

“Yeah?” Tina forced the word out of clenched jaws, tearing her eyes away from the white envelope on her nightstand – a product of two weeks of sweat, blood and tears – in the most literal sense. Bette’s birthday. Their anniversary. All her plans. Down the drain.

“You’re going to talk to her on her birthday, right?” Alice asked gently, careful with her query. “I mean, I understand if you don’t want to. But.. um.. maybe a simple greeting would do? It would mean a lot to Bette..”

“I dunno Alice..” Tina sighed, torn, conflicted and confused. She was still hurting, and because of that.. “I don’t think I’m ready to see her or talk to her. I’m just not.”

“Okay..” Alice mumbled, trying to hide the disappointment in her voice. She always knew that she wouldn’t like it if Tina and Bette broke up, but she never realized just how affected she would be. Their frustrations had also become hers, and their pain? Oddly enough, she could feel it too. Not in the magnitude that the golden couple felt it, but still significant enough to affect her day-to-day life. Without Shane or Sam here, she found herself as the sole caretaker of both Bette and Tina – alternating between calls to the blonde and offering a shoulder to cry on for the brunette; well actually, more of an ear to rant on. At first she wanted to stay mad at Bette, but discovered after half a day with her that her friend was doing a damn good job of beating herself up that to add to it would just be plain evil. So angry Alice became the supportive one – and now she was just trying to be the mediator, the bridge, the go-to person. “But if ever you think you’re up to it.. drop her a line or something, ‘kay?”

    1. I went back and read JTG chapter 30 – the one with the Ferris wheel and the gift-cookies for Bette’s B’day…including the “Tina’s heart cookie.” Bette promised not to hurt TK’s heart. Don’t you just hate it when someone brings back something you’ve said or done in the past to make a point. :) He-he! Need to fix this…PPS. :)

    2. Going back to your hiding hole? What the….? I know that doesn’t mean a few months before another post?! Very nice lengthy update but I need more…this story is my crack. LMAO! Bring on groveling Bette!

    3. So good I have to comment twice. :-) I forgot to say earlier that I don’t often get into teenage TiBette stories, but this story is just beyond good. I love all your characters, B and T especially. Your reformed and generous Bette, and your strong, passionate, stubborn Tina – “the immortal weed” – always a pleasure to read your updates. Thank you for taking the time to write and share with us. :-)

    4. Ah, girl! Thank you again. I don’ t know what can I say to you. I love that story. And sorry I’ m late but I was out of town. Have a nice day. Kisses.

    5. Groveling Bette…bring it on Alchemy! Tina deserves major groveling.Alice was hysterical in this chapter! Her snarkiness to Clara…too good!Kareoke…with double dare…classic. Wonderful balence of drama and humor. Once again, you rock!

    6. Thanks for this update Alchemy. I can just imagine Bettes singing. And seems, the we havent reach the peak of the drama for whats to come. I remember the scenes with those effects. But please dont wait till the end to get them back together, pretty pls.

    7. Barry! LOL! That was great, and I thought this was very up lifting. I’m also happy that Jill made that effort to talk to Tina. Although, I did fear for a second that she was going to leave DD marks on her. LOL. I’m loving it, thanks for the post.

    8. What a cliffy! I loved it before and I still love it up to now. Thanks for the post. I wish their heartache would end. I am hurting too…

    9. I left that comment for the wrong author, oops. *blush* This B&T are rather heartbreaking. I hope Tina can listen to poor, half-strangled Shane… But the onus is on Bette. She’s got to earn Tina’s trust again. But Tina does need to know that Bette didn’t cheat on her. Grovelling Bette will be interesting. Thanks for the post, Alchemy.

    10. what can i say… i hate what they are doing… but i have faith it will end soon and be back together… at least i hope tina is willing to start forgiving bette… more ass kissing is called for… for sure… but tina needs to get out of where she is… let bette suffer some more… seeing tina all the tima and net being with her will kill her more..pps

    11. Okay so this dose of drama was definitely better..it’s what they must go through..I appreciatethe lovely balance of humor w/ the drama..and of course I love Sam’s return..the only other one Bette listens to…thank you

    12. Alchemy your mix of humor, drama, and sweetness is incomparable. :-) Bette dug her own hole with Tina, and now she needs to dig herself out. Trust is a fragile thing, and hard to earn back when it’s broken. The singing was priceless, haha! Thank you for this lighter chapter – it’s always a joy to read your writing.

    13. Man, I feel for both Bette and Tina. Tina has been royally wronged, but Bette is trying to make up for past mistakes. If Bette is ever in a position of talking to Tina she needs to come clean with all that she has been doing and why.

    14. That was great, sad to see B&T apart but hope they will talk, work thing out and get back together soon. Alice is crazy but gonna love her. Please post more, thanks!
