Just The Girl – Chapter Forty Eight Part One (a HYD-inspired fic)

    I can.

    I can.

    I can.

    I can.

    Not.

    Fuck.

Has it only been a minute?

Why does time go so slow?

Why the heck do the roads seem to stretch?

And why do I care so much?

    Darn.

    I give up.

    Here we go.

    Again.

For the third time, I managed a loud sigh. This woman was driving me crazy.. yet I can’t get myself to leave her. “You’re not like the other girls I’ve dated before.” I tell her, my voice laced in resignation. There, I spoke up first. I lost. Once again, I witness myself eat my perennial meal of the past few weeks – a big o’l dish of Porter pride. I’m amazed I even have some left.

Finally, she looks at me, glares.. and then smiles in victory.

You win Maxine – like you always do.

And the truth is, I don’t mind. I don’t mind at all.

    —-

And there, watching the sleeping man lay dreaming..

“She has the right to know.”

    “What?”

“Miss Bette. She needs to know about this.”

    “James.”

“Don’t look at me like that, you know I’m right.”

“It’s not our place to interfere. He specifically said that—”

    “I know what he said!”

“Which is why we should stay out of it.”

“This is wrong. We can’t keep this thing hidden forever. It’s gonna leak out to the press and I don’t want Miss Bette to know about it through the news. She needs to hear it from us, Joyce. It’s the proper way.”

A deep sigh. “That is not what the man wants.”

“Yeah, but it’s what he needs.”

    “You don’t know that..”

“I don’t?” A mocking laugh. “He’s been ordering people left and right to do things for his daughter – watch over her, bulletproof her car, fix her apartment and whatnot. All that trouble for a child he has supposedly disowned and does not care about? And you believe him when he says that he doesn’t want to see her until she decides to ask for his forgiveness?”

    1. One of the absolute best stories I’ve read. Glad you’re back with bank account intact! Glad Melvin has woken up both literally and emotionally. Love the whipped Bette… the dialogue between her and Tina is too cute. Look forward to the other half of the chapter.

    2. This is the way to go Melvin. Bette is your daughter and you love her. You aso own an apology to Ken and Tina tho. Great post Alchemy10. dana still has to apologise to Tina.Bette and Tina are soooooooooo cute , they are funny, full of love and my hope. Can’t wait for the other half to be posted

    3. Yey! Melvin is stepping off his high horse! I really, really, really love your story. It has the right mix of drama and comedy in it. Thanks for teh chapter!

    4. Another great chapter from the queen of story telling herself. Yay for Melvin. The funny parts have me rolling so hard and yelling at like 4 in the morning, my neighbors are going to try to have me evicted soon. Can’t wait for the next post. Tah!

    5. You’re back!! Great chapter as usual… Dana, I think, won’t be hurting Alice any time soon. But she and Tina still have some making up to do. Maybe a helpful push, even from Porter? And I’m glad Melvin’s coming around. He obviously loves his daughter, but it’s good that his stubbornness is gone so he can see that. And B&T are still just the cutest! Love the story, Alchemy, thanks for the psot!
