Just The Girl – Chapter Twenty (a HYD-inspired fic)
"Hello?" She mumbled as her eyes remained shut.
"I knew it." The caller sighed into the receiver as she confirmed her fears.
"Huh?" Tina furrowed her brows in confusion. "Who is this?" She asked, still a little sleepy.
"It’s Sam." The caller answered plainly.
"Sam?" Tina’s eyes shot open immediately as she sat up on the sofa. "How did you get my number?" She asked a little breathlessly, completely taken by surprise. First Bette Porter, now it was Sam Makavejev calling her home phone.
"I have my ways." Sam answered. "Anyway, what are you doing at home?" She sighed a little in frustration.
"Umm.. napping?" Tina answered meekly.
"Why aren’t you in Santa Monica?" Sam went straight to the point.
"What’s in Santa Monica?" Tina fished innocently.
"Your date." Sam deadpanned.
So it was a date, Tina thought. Well, it wasn’t my fault that Porter was so vague about it. "I wasn’t sure if Porter was calling me out there to slug it out or something.." She said slowly.
"Did you guys fight after the party?" Sam asked.
"No." Tina answered truthfully. Actually, Porter was very sweet when she insisted on taking her home.. saying something about how dangerous it was for beautiful young girls to be riding a taxi all alone in the middle of the night.
"Then why did you think that she wanted to meet you for a fight this morning?" Sam sighed. She had a feeling that something like this was going to happen. Bette was very positive about it last night, but she had that nagging feeling that maybe her bestfriend didn’t quite get her message across to Tina. She didn’t talk to Bette today but she took a chance and called Tina at her apartment to check if she had left to meet her best friend. When the blonde had answered the phone after a few rings, Sam’s stomach plummeted down as she suddenly felt bad for Bette. She knew just how the brunette was looking forward to her date with Tina and it pained her to know that her best friend was being stood up.
"Well Porter didn’t ask me out.. she commanded me to go to Santa Monica. What was I supposed to think? That isn’t how you ask a girl out on a date.." Tina defended herself. If Bette had been clear about it and asked her instead of ordering her to go, maybe she would have been more willing to go on a date with the brunette.

When Tina saw Bette curled up, soaking wet, waiting for her… I just wanted to ball. It was so incredibly touching. Can’t wait to read the next chappie…
That was great and glad Tina come, ok now let the first date began!
I am glad that Sam stepped in and made sure that Tina understood what was going on. Poor Bette, she has so much to learn but she does seem to learn quickly. Can’t wait to read more!
That chapter had me in tears for Bette. Tina should have listened to her heart in this case. So glad that Sam called, but why didn’t Bette call the house, she does have a cell phone. So beautiful though.
Yay, yay, brilliant; thank you so much!
Wow. That’s a lovely, touching rain-drenched scene. Superb! I hope Bette or Tina won’t catch cold so that they could continue their first, first date. Thank you, Alchemy! :>
