They had joked, and despite herself, Bette smiled as she recalled only twenty four hours earlier when Lily had used the ‘f’ word and shocked Bette, but shocked her and enjoyed the look on Bette’s face. Lily could have the most wicked sense of humour at the most unexpected of times, and yesterday was one of those times.

Did she know? Did Lily know that her time was shorter than she was letting on? Did she know that if she didn’t go to the church that she wouldn’t ever have that opportunity again?

    She must have known.

There was no other explanation for it.

There was something that Bette had been unable to put her finger on when she had looked into Lily’s eyes yesterday, but now…, now she knew better…, but it was too late for that thought.

    It was all too late.

She had wanted the opportunity of telling Lily how much she meant to her, how much she loved her, how important she was in her life, how after her mother had died that Lily was the only stable in her life, the only one that loved her without question…, she was never going to be able to say any of those things now…

    Did she know?

Would Lily have known those things…?

Bette sighed, her eyes welled and she hoped.

She hoped that Lily knew how much she was loved.

She swallowed that feeling in her throat that seemed a constant at the moment and felt that flash of anger, what was the point in hoping…, hoping wasn’t the same as being able to say tell her…

Tina left the hotel in preparation of filing the divorce papers.

She had a strange feeling about her when had woken this morning and that feeling wouldn’t seem to shift.

Was it that this was the last tie to the prick that was her biggest regret in life, the final tie that was to be broken and forever in the past, with the door to that previous life slammed shut, firmly bolted and the key thrown in any river she was passing…

Or was it that she hadn’t heard those dulcet tones of the woman she had fallen for hook, line and sinker in four days.  And that situation wasn’t likely to improve either, when she had suddenly realised that she had left her cell phone charger at home.

    1. Absolutely perfect! You have captured everything necessary in this chapter to bring so much of Lily’s life to a close properly. Mate, the note just sent chills down my spine. It’s so true that in love, one must take tender care of the other ones heart. Let’s watch that tenderness unfold through your delicate hands. Jo, you never cease to please. A brilliant and gifted writer indeed. I think a certain someone else would have been proud of the way you brought Lily to life in this fic. A great honor, and a great service. xo

    2. Wow Jo, another fabulous chapter! You write so beautifully and the emotion just drips from the page. I have a feeling that Bette won’t be alone too long; Tina senses she needs her.

    3. Jo it eems that I can never find enough words or the right words to tell you how much I enjoy your writing. This chapter was so beautfully written and expressed all the love, and care that one feels for ths specal someone. Your writing and your words are so eloquent and I love everything that you write. So happy to see you back. Post when you can.

    4. This is such a beautiful story. I cried again and still can’t get enough. I feel so sorry for Bette and what she’s going through. Can’t Tina make some sort a plan to go back for the papers. She has to know and feel how much Bette needs her. I’m sure she also knows how Bette will hold her feelings inside and not ask for her to come home. So sad…but I’m sure you’ll bring them together when the time is right. Please let it be soon. PPS

    5. So touching, and perfectly written, you always have been and always will be the one who touches our hearts and move us in a way that no one could. Thank you so much. Post soon and have a great weekend.

    6. I absolutely adore you writing, Jo. I had to read it twice just to savor every word… that note had me teary-eyed. I hope I’m misunderstanding your note that you anticipate only one more chapter… I’m never prepared for your stories to end. Thanks for the lovely read!

    7. Always glad to see your name, mate. What a great way to end my day! This was an amazing post… hey anything you write is amazing! Such a moving story!P.S Why is this Frisky one distracting you? I think you need to ignore the Badger… we need more updates from you! =)

    8. You made me cry. Knowing how broken Bette is and her inability to reach out to Tina was heart breaking. I am glad that Tina trusted her gut feelings about Bette. I hope she can get to her and ease her burden. Beautifully written!

    9. Jo, I just finished this chapter after reading the whole story last week-end and this, I have so many emotions running through my head I could never put them all down here. Just know it ever posed the question again, if your stories ever changed someones path in life, you can say “Yes they have” Thank you so much. Md

    10. You just described the exact feelings one has when we lose the most important person who has shaped and made our lives important. Yes, that lump on our throats is unavoidable, plus the feeling of emptyness, which represents the imminent “absence” of that person. After grieving, you are comforted that the memory of such an extraordinary person remains and lives in your heart. However, the sting always surfaces, when you remember that such a special person is not there, with you. Thanks, Jo. You really honored, with dignity, the Lillys who have touched and made us better people. Sincerely, Lucero & Marsha – JC’s Salsa Aunties, from Mexico City

    11. Beautifully done, Jo. You were really able to describe Lilly’s kind spirit throughout this story and the note she left for Bette, continued to show how unconditionally she loved her. It broke my heart that Bette couldn’t pick up the phone to tell Tina she needed her. Let her in Bette ! Let Tina be there to help you during this time of sorrow. PS.
