“Lamenting”–a script for Season 2 episode 1, part 1
(Bette reels backward and leans against the wall)
Tina:
I gave up so much to be with you, to marry you, to be a mother to our children…
Bette:
Oh, God Tina…I know you did.
Tina:
And you have made an absolute fool out of me.
(Tina turns and walks into kitchen, grabs her keys, and heads toward the front door)
(Bette is now completely unraveled and has slid down to the floor)
Bette:
(as Tina grabs the door *****)
Tina…I love you.
Tina:
Yeah, that and a dime…
(Tina exits and slams the door so hard that the glass shatters).
Back to present day:
Scene 7: at Youth Center, late morning
(focus in on Candace, framing up a wall)
Worker #1:
Hey boss?
Candace:
Yeah?
Worker #1:
We’re taking orders for lunch. You want your usual?
Candace:
(considers something for a moment)
Uh, no thanks. I’ve got to run a few errands.
Scene 8: Youth Center parking lot, late morning
(Candace exits Youth Center, puts on her shades, and heads toward her blue Chevy)
(She turns on the engine, and sits there for several moments, brooding. Finally, she puts the car in gear.)
Candace:
(under her breath)
***** it.
(she backs out of the space and speeds out of parking lot)
Scene 9: Bette and Tina’s house, late morning
(scan through main rooms…the glass is now cleaned up…move down the hall to master bedroom…the bed is made, all is tidy)
(pan across room to bathroom doorway, see Bette standing at the mirror, dressed for work, putting on her make-up)
(focus in on Bette’s face–she is trying to cover up her injured cheek, and is not having much luck)
(Bette throws her powder brush into the sink)
Bette:
(exasperated)
***** it.
Scene 10: CAC parking garage, late morning
(pan along row of nameplates above reserved spaces as Candace’s car rolls by them. See the one for: Bette Porter, Director…the space is empty)
(Candace pulls into an empty space…see thru her windshield that she is a row behind and at an angle to Bette’s space.)
(Candace turns off the engine, crosses her arms, and waits)
Scene 11: Dana’s House, afternoon
Tonya:
(dramatically)
But why?!!! You gave me this ring, see? This was a promise…a sacred trust…3 carats!
