Let It Happen – Chapter III

Bette turned, stepped out, and drew the curtains as she walked away from the confused blonde.

What just happened? Tina asked herself. She shook her head, and shook it again, as she turned to face the video. She was staring blankly at it.  After what seemed to be eternity, her eyes slowly focused on what she was watching, after she realized the video was on constant replay.  So this is video art, she thought.

The video’s opening frame was a simple garden shot, showing a garden surrounding a small pool.  It was a clear day, and the stillness in the garden reminded Tina of a Magritte painting. The song on the audio soon turned it into a plaintive scene. The image of a man naked, standing on one end of the pool suddenly flashed in, then out. The image of a nude woman standing at the other end opposite from where the man stood, flashed in half a second later, and then cut out.

The repeated, rhythmic flashing in and out of the naked images of the same man and woman, never shown together, in different areas of the garden, but always in a parallel position to the other, was hypnotizing. A certain connection, created by the flashing images, was forming between them, in Tina’s eyes. The last shot that flashed was at last of the naked figures together, gazing into each other’s eyes, standing closely together, holding each other. The shot lingered a bit longer than the others, and then soon flashed out. The closing image returned to the opening shot of the video, the one of the garden and the pool. Then the video and audio cut out.

Tina thought it was captivating.  And it was timely for her. She slowly stood up, still confused about what had transpired between her and the beautiful gallery owner, but willing to listen now, to the persistent feeling and unexplained emotion growing inside her.

She went to look for Bette.

After Bette left the video art booth, and a confused Tina, she walked disappointedly to her adjoining office to pick up a  remote control.  She switched on a special handset to radio James, her assistant, who was seeing to final details of the special exhibit Bette was showing her guests tonight.

    1. Dear author, discovering this story of yours last night was truly a gift,
Savouring everything, from the remembering of this magical city of Paris – that is so deeply a part of my soul and heart since always – to this so tender, delicate depiction of our dearest two’s growing attraction I truly love in this story, gives such a comfort to me at a very right moment…
And, finally, these two quotes, in this chapter, brang at the same time smile on my face and tears in my eyes, because something deeply personal resounds in me – bitter sweet memories always present :

“there was something much more intimate and magical in their relationship than undeniable physical attraction (…) She later understood that no matter what would happen later in life between the two of them, Bette would never be able to forget her. This was going to be a relationship that she would not be able to walk away from without being shattered.”

Thank you so much for sharing this true endearing and delicate writing talent with us – I mean it.
      A.

    2. Each, in their own way, will find ways to overlook undesirable things in the other even as they each continue to fall in love with this evolving, changing person they found in “Let It Happen.” Both will continue to change, and will never be the same from book to book in this series.
I hope you’ll get to read the other books — then I hope you let me know what you think.
      Take good care,
      S
