By this time, Bette was right behind her, and reached to put her hand on Tina’s waist. Tina’s eyes closed against her will and she immediately had to try to control the rate of her breathing.
“Is something wrong,” Bette’s body fit snugly up against Tina’s as she asked the question directly into her ear. Her hands reached around and overlapped each other at Tina’s waistline.
“I think it’s my turn to ask what you’re doing,” Tina could barely manage to enunciate the words.
Bette’s right hand unfastened the top button of Tina’s jeans.
“Did you forget your keys like you forgot your earring 11 years ago,” Bette whispered.
“I really did forget my keys, Bette,” Tina replied quietly, while simultaneously turning her head to appreciate the heat of Bette’s face in close proximity to her own.
“And you’re certainly putting up the good fight to escape from my grasp right now,” Bette teased. Her fingertips ran across the smooth skin of Tina’s abdomen, but made no effort to traverse any lower than was already accessible.
Tina turned to face her. Her cheeks were flush with excitement. With desire.
“I have to go,” Tina stammered out. “I can’t stay.”
“You didn’t think kissing me would start anything?” Bette said sarcastically. “That we could just get each other going a bit and be left to our own devices?”
She leaned down and picked the keys up from the floor.
“Before you decide you’re interested in pursuing something with me, may I suggest that you consider the consequences,” Bette said stoically. “Unless you’re prepared to tolerate some bad along with the good we already know we can have together, we shouldn’t bother. The sex alone is just not worth it to me. I can’t turn off my emotions the way you seem to be able to, and I’m not going to subject our daughter to the type of rollercoaster relationship that we’ve had previously.”
Tina took the keys from Bette’s hand.
“I understand that you’re angry Bette,” Tina replied quietly. “We’re going to have to get past that if we hope to have anything together. But what you don’t seem to appreciate is that I needed time to get over my anger at you too. I finally trust you again or I wouldn’t even attempt anything. But more than that, I love you. If you can’t get past what I did to accept that, then maybe we shouldn’t bother.”

I certainly remember this story and I love it more now. Thanks for updating the language so the profane language is present. It’s not that I am a complete potty mouth but let’s be realistic. Several of the stories that have transferred over have blanks or asterisks instead of the actual language. In my opinion, when this happens, the stories lose some of their authenticity and the characters lose their edge. I realize that it takes effort to fill in the blanks especially in longer stories. So thanks for doing that.
I find stories harder to read with the asterisks inserted…it’s like a jolt of reality interfering with my escapism. I had to get to the task of editing them out. I do plan to work on more stories; some easier than others because of where the files are. This story was first posted almost 10 (!) years ago, so the digital file was more challenging to retrieve. I’m not much for cursing, but the occasional well placed F-bomb can really get someone’s attention.
@JKS I can’t believe this story is almost 10 years old! It reads now as fresh as it did then. I really love your stories because they are so well written with realism, humor, sarcasm and authenticity. It also helps that for us ORs (Original Readers), it follows canon for the characters and storylines. :-)
