“I thought you could come over tomorrow about three o’clock,” Bette suggested. “That’ll give me a good chunk of the day to get some work done.”
“Do you still have a lot of gardening tools, or should I bring a few things over to help with the vine?”
“I think I have everything you need,” Bette concluded, after pondering the question for a moment.
‘Fuck do you ever,’ Tina thought silently.
“Do you have any plans tomorrow night?” Tina asked. “I mean, we’re not doing anything for dinner and if you’d like maybe we could all have something together.”
“I’d like that,” Bette agreed. “If we’re going to date, sometimes it will be in the context of family, instead of just the two of us.”
“I’ll bring a few things to cook then?” Tina suggested.
Bette nodded. She reached out and touched the side of Tina’s face with the palm of her hand.
“We do have a very special connection,” Bette said quietly. “I just don’t want anyone to get hurt.”
Tina swallowed hard.
“That’s the last thing I want,” she said quietly. “I knew I had to be sure before I pursued anything with you for that very reason.”
“I should go,” Bette’s hand dropped from Tina’s face to rest on her own lap.
Tina reached for her hand, intertwining her fingers with Bette’s.
“No you shouldn’t,” Tina said. “Angelica’s sleeping.”
“And…”
“And we’re adults, who care about each other…” Tina started. “Come on Bette, don’t make me spell it out.”
“It’s not that I don’t want you,” Bette said. “I have reservations about getting carried away too soon…before we’ve really talked much.”
“There is that pattern with us,” Tina admitted. She decided on a different tack. “So what would you like to talk about?”
She kept touching Bette’s hand as she asked the question, playfully running her fingers over the webbing and palm of it. She let her fingertips lightly touch Bette’s inner forearm before returning her attention to the hand again.
“You used to do that when we were first dating,” Bette said with a smile. “And you know it turns me on.”
“Sorry, I’ll stop,” Tina said. Her hand continued with its movements, and the goose bumps started to rise on Bette’s skin. “Do you find it cool?”

I certainly remember this story and I love it more now. Thanks for updating the language so the profane language is present. It’s not that I am a complete potty mouth but let’s be realistic. Several of the stories that have transferred over have blanks or asterisks instead of the actual language. In my opinion, when this happens, the stories lose some of their authenticity and the characters lose their edge. I realize that it takes effort to fill in the blanks especially in longer stories. So thanks for doing that.
I find stories harder to read with the asterisks inserted…it’s like a jolt of reality interfering with my escapism. I had to get to the task of editing them out. I do plan to work on more stories; some easier than others because of where the files are. This story was first posted almost 10 (!) years ago, so the digital file was more challenging to retrieve. I’m not much for cursing, but the occasional well placed F-bomb can really get someone’s attention.
@JKS I can’t believe this story is almost 10 years old! It reads now as fresh as it did then. I really love your stories because they are so well written with realism, humor, sarcasm and authenticity. It also helps that for us ORs (Original Readers), it follows canon for the characters and storylines. :-)
